Located in the north of Vietnam, the province of Sri Lanka is a national cultural region with rich virgin forests and beautiful mountain scenery. Even with a strong culture and natural beauty, visitors will not feel that the city is a destination. The Son La restaurant with 750 guests is the first facility in a new hotel near the city centre to showcase this potential.
Due to the tough terrain, Son La can only take a 7-hour drive from Hanoi along the precarious cliff road. Barrier-free facilities make transportation of building materials and workers difficult.
As a result, the project maximizes the use of local resources, including workers and affordable local materials. In this case, local bamboo and stone carvings were selected as the main materials for the building.
The hot season with hot seasons is hot, high humidity, heavy rainfall, temperate, but hot and dry season, the building consists of 8 separate stone buildings and an open-air bamboo restaurant, serving two air-conditioned rooms and comfortable outside dining. The stone building offers multiple entrances from the dining room and multiple frame views from the external dining area. The various heights of the buildings and trees on the roof provide a vertical landscape view from the outside. The local stone walls are 10 km from the site and offer texture and connectivity around the mountains.
Hundreds of native peach trees are planted in the surrounding landscape to celebrate the flower season and appeal to guests. The project was built at 600USD / m2. The project is located at the future entrance to the Sustainable Hotel Complex, which includes the conference hall and cafe. The restaurant and landscape foretell the cultural center of locals and future visitors.
The roof structure of the restaurant is made of local bamboo wood, called “Dragon”, which is 8 meters long. 96 bamboo column units composed of bamboo and bamboo together induce vertical expression of bamboo forest such as bamboo forest. 80-100mm diameter bamboo is processed in Vietnam by traditional methods, assembled by bamboo nails and ropes, involved in soaking in the mud, and then smoking.
The structurally induced shear load is supported by 10 layers of intersecting bamboo beams connected to the stone building. The ceiling is a “vote” made of local thatched wood, and a transparent composite roof panel covers its roof. The skylight opens between the columns, filling the space with soft light.
