Rusanov ured:

Rusanov ured: Papuk is a mountain in eastern Croatia, on the north and northwest border of Požega valley.  The inspiration for the solution of the layout of the fallen soldiers memorial on Papuk is following the tragic event happened on 2 December 1991. Veterans are metaphorically seen as verticals aiming to the sky and at the same time symbolizing their immortality and eternal memory of heroes. Each vertical is also the personification of individual veterans. The total of 11, are positioned on the plateau in two groups: 9 + 2 which suggest the chronology of events.

9 memorial verticals belongs to soldiers patrol that on that day had a task to transfer two employees of Detachment of the General Staff of the Croatian Army – Samobor: Vinko Tomašević, Davor Dragić, Tomo Perić, Tomislav Pranjković, Ivica Zlomislić, Branko Peći, Damir Pišmiš, te Tomislav Vužić Mohenski i Anđelko Tule and 2 verticals that are by its location separated from the rest belongs to two veterans who set out to help patrol when they heard gunshots: battalion by-commander Jozo Koutni i Tade Nikić. Between the two groups, there is a stand for laying a wreath and candles.

Just before the memorial verticals, there is a memorial plaque with the names of all veterans. The entrance to the memorial is marked by two memorial markings on the road leading to memorial on the east and west. The surface of the new memorial space is covered with dark gray gravel, 4-8 mm granulate. The existing uneven terrain on which the memorial space is positioned is straightforward for easier access for people with disabilities.

The element that clearly distinguishes the memorable space from the surrounding grassy area includes a 80 x 150 cm vertical barrier made of a 10mm thick corten. The vertical plate with the names of the fallen soldiers and the bottom of the board in the same material.  The stand for wreath and candles is made of a 10 mm thick corten, consisting of a folded horizontal board measuring 88 x 80 cm at a 21° angle and its base in the same material. At the top of the board there’s a welded crown hook holding the wreath. The bottom of the plate is leveled to accommodate 11 candles – one for each fallen soldier.

The memorial verticals follow the symbol of number 11: there is altogether 11 verticals with diameter of 11 cm and the height of 11 m. These are high tubes made of mat inox. Each vertical is personalized and carries the name of a particular soldier. This way, apart from the fact that the entire memorial space is a monument, extreme importance to every individual is given.
