Kennedy, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts takes an active position among the great presidential monuments in Washington, D.C. Through public events and stimulating art, the Kennedy Center offers a place where the community can engage and interact with artists across the full spectrum of the creative process. The REACH expansion, designed by Steven Holl Architects, adds much-needed rehearsal, education, and a range of flexible indoor and outdoor spaces to allow the Kennedy Center to continue to play a leadership role in providing artistic, cultural, and enrichment opportunities.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe REACH\u201d\u7684\u8bbe\u8ba1\u5c06\u5efa\u7b51\u4e0e\u666f\u89c2\u76f8\u878d\u5408\uff0c\u4f7f\u8fd9\u4e2a\u6d3b\u7684\u7eaa\u5ff5\u573a\u9986\u5728\u7a7a\u95f4\u89c4\u6a21\u4e0a\u5f97\u4ee5\u5ef6\u4f38\u3002\u53d9\u4e8b\u6027\u7684\u666f\u89c2\u6620\u5c04\u4e86\u80af\u5c3c\u8fea\u603b\u7edf\u7684\u4eba\u751f\uff1a35\u68f5\u94f6\u674f\u6811\u7ec4\u6210\u7684\u5c0f\u6811\u6797\u4f1a\u572811\u6708\u4e0b\u65ec\u843d\u4e0b\u91d1\u79cb\u7684\u53f6\u5b50\uff0c\u8c61\u5f81\u7740\u7ea6\u7ff0\u00b7\u80af\u5c3c\u8fea\u662f\u7f8e\u56fd\u7684\u7b2c35\u4efb\u603b\u7edf\uff1b\u955c\u9762\u6c34\u6c60\u548c\u7ea2\u6728\u666f\u89c2\u7532\u677f\u7684\u5c3a\u5bf8\u4e0e\u80af\u5c3c\u8fea\u4e8c\u6218\u65f6\u671f\u7684\u6218\u8239PT109\u76f8\u540c\u3002<\/p>\n

The design for The REACH merges architecture with the landscape to expand the dimensions of a living memorial. The landscape design includes a narrative reflection on the life of President Kennedy: a grove of 35 gingko trees, which will drop their golden autumn leaves in late November, acknowledges John F. Kennedy\u2019s position as the 35 th President of the United States; and a reflecting pool and mahogany landscape deck are built in the same dimensions and mahogany boards of Kennedy\u2019s WWII boat, the PT109.<\/p>\n

\u4e0e\u7231\u5fb7\u534e\u00b7\u675c\u96f7\u5c14\u00b7\u65af\u901a\uff08Edward Durell Stone\uff09\u5efa\u9020\u7684\u7eaa\u5ff5\u6027\u5efa\u7b51\u2014\u2014\u80af\u5c3c\u8fea\u4e2d\u5fc3\u76f8\u547c\u5e94\uff0c\u201cThe REACH\u201d\u7684\u4e09\u4e2a\u573a\u9986\u4e0e\u666f\u89c2\u878d\u4e3a\u4e00\u4f53\uff0c\u5171\u540c\u5851\u9020\u5ba4\u5916\u7a7a\u95f4\uff0c\u52fe\u52d2\u51fa\u534e\u76db\u987f\u7eaa\u5ff5\u7891\u3001\u6797\u80af\u7eaa\u5ff5\u5802\u548c\u6ce2\u6258\u9a6c\u514b\u6cb3\u6cbf\u5cb8\u7684\u666f\u8272\u3002\u7eff\u8272\u5c4b\u9876\u8fde\u63a5\u7740\u4e09\u4e2a\u573a\u9986\uff0c\u4f7f\u80af\u5c3c\u8fea\u4e2d\u5fc3\u7684\u5185\u90e8\u7a7a\u95f4\u5f97\u4ee5\u6269\u5f20\uff0c\u8fd9\u5305\u62ec72000\u5e73\u65b9\u82f1\u5c3a\u7684\u5f00\u653e\u5f0f\u5de5\u4f5c\u5ba4\u3001\u6392\u7ec3\u548c\u8868\u6f14\u7a7a\u95f4\uff0c\u4ee5\u53ca\u4e13\u7528\u7684\u827a\u672f\u5b66\u4e60\u7a7a\u95f4\u3002\u5728\u516c\u5171\u666f\u89c2\u4e2d\u5d4c\u5165\u5927\u90e8\u5206\u7684\u6269\u5efa\u5185\u5bb9\uff0c\u4e3a\u793e\u533a\u63d0\u4f9b\u6700\u5927\u9650\u5ea6\u7684\u7eff\u5316\u7a7a\u95f4\uff0c\u5e76\u4ece\u5185\u90e8\u7a7a\u95f4\u4e2d\u521b\u9020\u666f\u89c2\u89c6\u7ebf\u3002<\/p>\n

In complementary\/contrast to the monumental original Kennedy Center building by Edward Durell Stone, The REACH\u2019s three pavilions are fused with the landscape. They shape outdoor spaces between them, and frame views to the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial and Potomac riverfront. The three pavilions are interconnected below green roofs to expand the Kennedy Center\u2019s interior space with 72,000 sf of open studios, rehearsal and performance spaces, and dedicated arts learning spaces. Embedding much of the expansion under a public landscape offers maximum green space to the community and gives landscape views from the interior spaces.<\/p>\n
