Loenen Memorial Cemetery is the final resting place of nearly 4,000 Dutch soldiers and civilians. They lost their lives during World War II and in other violent conflicts that followed, such as the Dutch East Indies campaign, and in international peacekeeping missions.<\/p>\n

The cemetery was built in 1949 on the initiative of the Dutch War Graves Foundation (OGS). Every Dutch national who is deemed a war victim according to the statutes of the OGS can be buried at Loenen. The number of graves will never be thinned. To accommodate possible additional war victims in the future, OGS purchased land adjacent to the existing cemetery. It is a triangular area with a wooded character that must provide space for a total of approximately 5,000 graves. In 2009\/2010, Karres en Brands designed a masterplan for the new war cemetery that will be developed in different stages over time. The design involves a 1.5 km winding path linking eight burial chambers. The OGS installed the first two burial chambers in 2015\/2017, while the third was commissioned by the Loenen National Veterans Cemetery (NVBL) in 2020\/2021 and set up as a cemetery for veterans. The memorial and education centre has also been built, as has a new entrance to the cemetery.<\/p>\n

Haspels\u6700\u521d\u8bbe\u8ba1\u7684\u6218\u4e89\u516c\u5893\u867d\u7136\u4e0d\u8d77\u773c\uff0c\u4f46\u5374\u5f88\u6709\u6c14\u52bf\u3002\u5728\u5165\u53e3\u5904\uff0c\u4f60\u4f1a\u53d1\u73b0\u4e00\u4e2a\u6728\u5236\u5c0f\u6559\u5802\uff0c\u5728\u5b83\u540e\u9762\u662f\u4e00\u4e2a\u661f\u5f62\u7a7a\u95f4\uff0c\u4e2d\u95f4\u6709\u4e00\u4e2a\u5341\u5b57\u67b6\u3002\u8bbe\u8ba1\u7684\u529b\u91cf\u5728\u4e8e\u68ee\u6797\u4e0e\u5f00\u653e\u7a7a\u95f4\u4e92\u76f8\u4ea4\u7ec7\uff0c\u5f62\u6210\u9c9c\u660e\u7684\u5bf9\u6bd4\u3002\u4e3a\u4e86\u4fdd\u7559\u8fd9\u4e9b\u7279\u5f81\uff0c\u8bbe\u8ba1\u5e08\u51b3\u5b9a\u4e0d\u5728\u539f\u6765\u7684\u8bbe\u8ba1\u57fa\u7840\u4e0a\u7ee7\u7eed\u8fdb\u884c\uff0c\u800c\u662f\u8ba9\u6269\u5efa\u90e8\u5206\u6210\u4e3a\u4e00\u4e2a\u72ec\u7acb\u7684\u8bbe\u8ba1\u3002<\/p>\n

The original war cemetery designed by D. Haspels is modest but powerful. At the entrance you’ll find a small wooden chapel, and behind it is a star-shaped space with a cross in the middle. The strength of the design lies in the organization of open spaces enclosed by forest, and in the contrast between light and dark. In keeping with these qualities, it was decided not to continue with the original plan, but to allow the extension to be an independent design.<\/p>\n

\u6269\u5efa\u90e8\u5206\u5305\u62ec\u4e00\u6761\u957f\u957f\u7684\u4eba\u884c\u5c0f\u5f84\uff0c\u6cbf\u7740Groenendaalseweg\u8fde\u63a5\u4e86\u539f\u59cb\u5893\u5730\u7684\u4e3b\u8981\u8def\u7ebf\u548c\u7684\u65b0\u5efa\u7684\u7b2c\u4e8c\u5165\u53e3\u3002\u6cbf\u7740\u5c0f\u5f84\u5206\u5e03\u7740\u516b\u4e2a\u692d\u5706\u7684\u7a7a\u5730\u3002\u8fd9\u6761\u5c0f\u8def\u873f\u8712\u800c\u884c\uff0c\u901a\u5411\u904d\u5e03\u77f3\u5357\u7684\u68ee\u6797\u3002\u8fd9\u4e9b\u5f00\u653e\u7684\u7a7a\u95f4\u4f5c\u4e3a\u72ec\u7acb\u7684\u5893\u5730\uff0c\u6709\u7740\u81ea\u5df1\u7684\u72ec\u7279\u4e4b\u5904\u3002\u5893\u5ba4\u7684\u5206\u5e03\u4e0e\u5730\u5f62\u3001\u73af\u5883\u548c\u73b0\u6709\u7684\u6218\u4e89\u5893\u5730\u6709\u5173\u3002<\/p>\n

The extension consists of a long footpath connecting the main routes of the original cemetery to the new second entrance along Groenendaalseweg. There are eight elliptical open spaces along the path. The path is a beautiful winding line cut out into the forest with heather vegetation. The open spaces act as separate burial chambers, and each has its own character. The position and layout of these rooms is related to the topography, the environment, and the existing war cemetery.<\/p>\n
