SPORTS<\/a><\/strong>\uff1a(Lake Forest, IL) – Rounds is the winning design for the 2016 Ragdale Ring international design-build competition and the recipient of the Adrian Smith Prize and an Architect’s Newspaper “Best of Design” Award.\u00a0 The project is a temporary outdoor performance pavilion for the Ragdale Foundation, an artist colony 30 miles north of Chicago in the community of Lake Forest, Illinois. Departing from the convention of the bandshell structure and stage most commonly deployed in this setting, Rounds establishes a whimsical and inhabitable performance surface.<\/p>\n

Through its multiplicity of surface undulation types and sizes, Rounds encourages a multiplicity of performance types, performer to audience relationships, stage arrangements, and seating options, generating a versatile outdoor venue and a fully encompassing experience.<\/p>\n

\u8fd9\u4ef6\u5177\u6709\u5efa\u7b51\u89c4\u6a21\u5927\u5c0f\u7684\u5ead\u9662\u5bb6\u5177\u4e0e\u73b0\u573a\u7684\u4f18\u7f8e\u666f\u8272\u548c\u81ea\u7136\u8349\u5730\u76f8\u5f97\u76ca\u5f70\uff0c\u53ef\u4f9b\u6e38\u5ba2\u5728\u7279\u6b8a\u573a\u5408\u4eab\u53d7\uff0c\u4e5f\u53ef\u4f9b\u9a7b\u573a\u827a\u672f\u5bb6\u5728\u601d\u8003\u548c\u57f9\u517b\u4ed6\u4eec\u7684\u521b\u4f5c\u7075\u611f\u65f6\u5b9a\u671f\u4eab\u53d7\u3002<\/p>\n

Acting as a piece of architecturally-scaled garden furniture, the project compliments the beautiful existing landscape and natural prairie setting and can be enjoyed by both visitors on special occasions as well regularly by artists in the residency program as they reflect and nurture their creative efforts.<\/p>\n

Rounds\u5c0f\u5e45\u5ea6\u6ce2\u52a8\u7684\u8868\u9762\u5728\u8868\u6f14\u671f\u95f4\u4e3a\u89c2\u4f17\u63d0\u4f9b\u4e86\u8212\u9002\u7684\u4f11\u606f\u7a7a\u95f4\uff0c\u5728\u975e\u6f14\u51fa\u671f\u95f4\u4e5f\u53ef\u4f5c\u4e3a\u827a\u672f\u5bb6\u601d\u8003\u521b\u4f5c\u7684\u5730\u65b9\u3002\u4e2d\u7b49\u5e45\u5ea6\u7684\u6ce2\u52a8\u63d0\u4f9b\u4e86\u901a\u5f80\u73af\u5f62\u533a\u5185\u90e8\u7a7a\u95f4\u7684\u5165\u53e3\uff0c\u540c\u65f6\u4e5f\u53ef\u4f5c\u4e3a\u5907\u9009\u821e\u53f0\u6ee1\u8db3\u76f8\u5173\u8868\u6f14\u5b89\u6392\u3002\u6700\u5927\u5e45\u5ea6\u7684\u6ce2\u52a8\u5f62\u6210\u4e86\u4e3b\u821e\u53f0\uff0c\u5b83\u53ef\u4ee5\u88ab\u5206\u89e3\u6210\u66f4\u5c0f\u7684\u90e8\u5206\uff0c\u914d\u5408\u5468\u56f4\u540c\u65f6\u8fdb\u884c\u7684\u5176\u4ed6\u6f14\u51fa\u3002<\/p>\n

Small-scale undulations in the ring surface act as a lounge spaces for viewers during performances, or artists to contemplate their work during non-performance times. Mid-scale undulations in the surface provide entrances to the inner space of the ring, while also providing smaller scale protected stage areas. \u00a0The largest undulation is designed for the main stage area, a stage that can be broken down into smaller parts and distributed around the ring for several concurrent performances.<\/p>\n

Rounds also learns from the history of theaters in the round. Theaters in the round bring the performers into the same space as the audience, allowing for a more dynamic relationship between stage and seating, between performer and viewer. With a variety of possible stage locations depending on performance type and curator vision, performers and viewers alike can perform, sit and lounge within the ring as well as perch themselves all along the ring surface.<\/p>\n
