Establishing Eleftheria Square as the city\u2019s primary gathering space, Zaha Hadid Architects\u2019 (ZHA) design creates new connections intended to unite a divided capital. Nicosia\u2019s massive Venetian fortifications separate the old city from its modern districts, while the city\u2019s \u2018Green Line\u2019 divides the capital into two disparate communities. Located near the centre of Nicosia, Eleftheria Square is adjacent to the Venetian Walls and the dry moat that encircles the city. Constructed in the Middle Ages and extensively rebuilt by the Venetians in the 16th century, these substantial defensive walls define the boundary of the oldest part of the capital, dividing the ancient city from the new districts outside the walls.<\/p>\n

ZHA\u5c06Eleftheira\u5e7f\u573a\u89c6\u4e3a\u4e00\u4e2a\u66f4\u5927\u7684\u57ce\u5e02\u89c4\u5212\u7684\u521d\u59cb\u9636\u6bb5\uff0c\u53ef\u4ee5\u6210\u4e3a\u6574\u5408\u9996\u90fd\u7684\u50ac\u5316\u5242\u3002\u8be5\u8bbe\u8ba1\u786e\u4fdd\u4e86\u5a01\u5c3c\u65af\u57ce\u5899\u7684\u89c6\u91ce\u7545\u901a\u65e0\u963b\uff0c\u4f7f\u8fd9\u4e9b\u9632\u5fa1\u5de5\u4e8b\u6210\u4e3a\u5c3c\u79d1\u897f\u4e9a\u6574\u4f53\u4e0d\u53ef\u6216\u7f3a\u7684\u4e00\u90e8\u5206\uff0c\u540c\u65f6\u4e5f\u5c06\u5e72\u6db8\u7684\u62a4\u57ce\u6cb3\u5f00\u653e\u7ed9\u516c\u4f17\u4f7f\u7528\u4ee5\u521b\u5efa\u4e00\u4e2a\u73af\u7ed5\u57ce\u5e02\u7684\u8f68\u9053\u516c\u56ed\u3002\u7528\u65b0\u7684\u5e02\u6c11\u5e7f\u573a\u3001\u82b1\u56ed\u548c\u68d5\u6988\u6811\u957f\u5eca\u6765\u6539\u9020\u62a4\u57ce\u6cb3\u4e2d\u4ee5\u524d\u65e0\u6cd5\u8fdb\u5165\u7684\u533a\u57df\uff0c\u4f7f\u5176\u6210\u4e3a\u73af\u7ed5\u57ce\u5e02\u7684 “\u7eff\u5e26”\u3002ZHA\u7684\u8bbe\u8ba1\u63d0\u51fa\uff0c\u62a4\u57ce\u6cb3\u5185\u7684\u8fd9\u4e9b\u65b0\u516c\u5171\u7a7a\u95f4\u5c06\u6cbf\u7740\u53e4\u57ce\u5899\u5ef6\u4f38\uff0c\u73af\u7ed5\u5c3c\u79d1\u897f\u4e9a\uff0c\u91cd\u65b0\u8fde\u63a5\u9996\u90fd\u5206\u88c2\u7684\u793e\u533a\u3002<\/p>\n

ZHA envisioned Eleftheira Square as the initial phase of a much larger urban plan that could be a catalyst for the reunification of the capital. The design ensures unobstructed views of the Venetian Walls, establishing these fortifications as an integral part of Nicosia\u2019s identity, while also opening the dry moat for public use to create an orbital park that surrounds the city. Transforming previously inaccessible areas of the moat with new civic plazas, gardens and palm-lined promenades, the moat can become a \u2018green belt\u2019 around the city. ZHA\u2019s design proposes these new public spaces within the moat are extended to follow the ancient city walls and encircle Nicosia, reconnecting communities of this divided capital.<\/p>\n

Eleftheria\u5e7f\u573a\u8bbe\u8ba1\u6574\u4f53\u62ac\u5347\u4e86\u62a4\u57ce\u6cb3\u7684\u5730\u5f62\uff0c\u521b\u9020\u4e86\u4e00\u4e2a\u4e0e\u5468\u56f4\u8857\u666f\u76f8\u878d\u7684\u9ad8\u5c42\u6865\u6881\uff0c\u4e0e\u57ce\u5e02\u808c\u7406\u5efa\u7acb\u8d77\u76f4\u63a5\u7684\u8054\u7cfb\uff0c\u5e76\u5728\u9996\u90fd\u4e2d\u5fc3\u521b\u9020\u4e86\u4e00\u4e2a\u65b0\u7684\u516c\u5171\u5e7f\u573a\u3002<\/p>\n

\u5c06\u62a4\u57ce\u6cb3\u6539\u9020\u4e3a\u57ce\u5e02\u516c\u56ed\uff0c\u5176\u6d41\u7ebf\u51e0\u4f55\u56fe\u5f62\u6e90\u81ea\u53e4\u4ee3\u9632\u5fa1\u5de5\u4e8b\u4e0d\u89c4\u5219\u5f62\u72b6\u7684\u4e09\u7ef4\u884d\u53d8\uff0c\u5efa\u7acb\u7684\u201c\u5f3a\u5ea6\u201d \u70b9\u91cd\u65b0\u5b9a\u4e49\u4e86\u516c\u56ed\u5185\u7684\u5ea7\u4f4d\u3001\u82b1\u575b\u6216\u6c34\u666f\u3002<\/p>\n

Transformed into an urban park, the moat\u2019s fluid geometries have been created through the process of triangulating the irregular forms of the ancient fortifications to establish points of \u2018intensity\u2019 that define seating, flowerbeds or water features within the new park.<\/p>\n

The moat\u2019s granite paving conveys a timeless solidity, while open joints between the granite slabs create a passive rainwater drainage system that allows the new trees planted within the moat to naturally balance groundwater levels and reduce erosion of the medieval walls\u2019 foundations.<\/p>\n

Eleftheira\u5e7f\u573a\u4f5c\u4e3a\u5c3c\u79d1\u897f\u4e9a\u6700\u5927\u7684\u5e02\u6c11\u5e7f\u573a\uff0c\u53ef\u7528\u4e8e\u4e3e\u529e\u8282\u65e5\u548c\u516c\u5171\u6d3b\u52a8\uff1b\u6df7\u51dd\u571f\u6d47\u7b51\u7684\u4e0a\u5c42\u6865\u6881\u548c\u652f\u6491\u67f1\u6709\u7740\u96d5\u5851\u822c\u7684\u5916\u5f62\uff0c\u786e\u4fdd\u4e86\u5b83\u7684\u7ed3\u6784\u5728\u5730\u9707\u533a\u4e5f\u80fd\u4fdd\u8bc1\u5b8c\u6574\u6027\u4e14\u6bcf\u6839\u67f1\u5b50\u7684\u57fa\u5ea7\u90fd\u53ef\u4f9b\u5750\u6b47\u3002<\/p>\n

As the largest civic plaza in Nicosia, Eleftheira Square has been designed to host festivals and public events; its upper level bridge and supporting columns are crafted in concrete, their sculptural formsensure structural integrity in this seismic region and the base of each column morphs into seating.<\/p>\n

\u5e7f\u573a\u7684\u6539\u9020\u6d89\u53ca\u5927\u91cf\u8003\u53e4\u6316\u6398\u4ee5\u53ca\u5bf9\u5a01\u5c3c\u65af\u5386\u53f2\u57ce\u5899\u7684\u4fee\u590d\u548c\u4fdd\u62a4\u5de5\u7a0b\u3002\u6539\u9020\u9879\u76ee\u8fd8\u5305\u62ec\u5e7f\u573a\u5185\u7684\u4e24\u4e2a\u5496\u5561\u9986\u548c\u4ee5\u53caOmirou\u5927\u9053\u4e0a\u5e26\u6709\u5165\u53e3\u5761\u9053\u7684\u65b0\u5730\u4e0b\u505c\u8f66\u573a\uff0c\u697c\u68af\u548c\u7535\u68af\u5219\u53ef\u4ee5\u76f4\u63a5\u62b5\u8fbe\u7d22\u6d1b\u83ab\u65af\u5e7f\u573a\u7684\u516c\u5171\u6c7d\u8f66\u603b\u7ad9\u3002<\/p>\n

The renovation of the square involved extensive archaeological excavations together with works to repair and protect the historic Venetian Walls. The redevelopment also includes two cafes within the square and the new underground parking lot with access ramp on Omirou Avenue. Stairs and elevators directly connect with the bus terminal in Solomos Square.<\/p>\n

ZHA\u5bf9Eleftheria\u5e7f\u573a\u7684\u6539\u9020\u5c06\u5c3c\u79d1\u897f\u4e9a\u4e30\u5bcc\u7684\u5386\u53f2\u4e0e\u5bf9\u672a\u6765\u575a\u5b9a\u4e0d\u79fb\u7684\u4e50\u89c2\u7cbe\u795e\u7f16\u7ec7\u5728\u4e00\u8d77\u3002\u5e7f\u573a\u8fde\u63a5\u5a01\u5c3c\u65af\u57ce\u5899\u548c\u62a4\u57ce\u6cb3\uff0c\u6210\u4e3a\u4e86\u901a\u5f80\u53e4\u57ce\u7684\u91cd\u8981\u95e8\u6237\uff1b\u5730\u4e0b\u505c\u8f66\u573a\u7684\u8bbe\u8ba1\u5c06\u6c7d\u8f66\u4ece\u53e4\u57ce\u8857\u9053\u4e0a\u632a\u8d70\uff0c\u5f3a\u5316\u6b65\u884c\u53cb\u597d\u73af\u5883\u4ee5\u6539\u5584\u8fd9\u4e00\u5386\u53f2\u8857\u533a\u7684\u57ce\u5e02\u7a7a\u95f4\uff0c\u540c\u65f6\u4e5f\u521b\u9020\u4e86\u65b0\u7684\u516c\u5171\u82b1\u56ed\u548c\u5e7f\u573a\u4f9b\u5e02\u6c11\u548c\u6e38\u5ba2\u4eab\u7528\u3002<\/p>\n

ZHA\u2019s transformation of Eleftheria Square weaves together Nicosia\u2019s rich history with an unwavering optimism for the future. Bridging the Venetian Wall and moat, the square becomes an important gateway to the old city, its underground parking removing cars from the ancient city\u2019s streets to enable further pedestrianisation that enhances the urban realm of this historic district while also creating new public gardens and plazas to be enjoyed by residents and visitors to the city.<\/p>\n
