The development comprises of 4 development plots which are being built out at different stages.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 160px;\">RLAM appointed B|D Landscape Architects in June 2020 to review the long term landscape scheme as well as develop a Meanwhile landscape to be situated at the centre of the site. The client foresaw that the staged development of the four plots might generate disruption to the completed plots 2 and 4. It was therefore the client\u2019s desire that Glassfields will provide a high quality and inviting public realm area that achieves a better blend of soft and green landscape that will encourage office staff and visitors to use the area. As a major development RLAM were also seeking to create a harmonised space which delivers a sense of place where people can sit, rest and enjoy. The location of the Meanwhile Park has therefore been carefully considered, being located centrally within the site with clear access from adjacent pedestrian routes as well as from the adjoining Hotel and offices. Therefore maximising the impact of the landscape on an otherwise brownfield site.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 160px;\">The Meanwhile Park provides flexible space for small pop-up events and maximises the visual impact of soft and hard landscape materials so to create a vibrant central space. The vision for Glassfields has been inspired by local character with the site being located adjacent to the historic Gardener Haskins building. The landscape design aimed to connect with both the history and future of Glassfields and help to define and reactivate the landscape while the remaining plots are built out.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 160px;\">The scheme gained planning permission in March 2021 and was completed in the November. The vision for Glassfields from concept to completion can clearly be seen within the Meanwhile Park which has transformed a brownfield site into a place where people want to pause and dwell Ltd.\u5408\u4f5c\uff0c\u5efa\u7acb\u4e86\u4e00\u79cd\u9002\u5408\u5728Glassfields\u8301\u58ee\u751f\u957f\u7684\u91ce\u82b1\u8349\u76ae\uff0c\u53ea\u9700\u5f15\u5165\u6700\u5c11\u7684\u571f\u58e4(\u8868\u5c42\u571f\u58e4\u6df1\u5ea6\u4e3a150mm)\u3002\u89c2\u8d4f\u690d\u7269\u533a\u7684\u8bbe\u8ba1\u8fdc\u79bb\u4e86\u73b0\u6709\u7684\u5730\u4e0b\u8bbe\u65bd\uff0c\u5e76\u8bbe\u7f6e\u5728\u5176\u89c6\u89c9\u6548\u679c\u6700\u4f73\u7684\u5730\u65b9\uff0c\u9760\u8fd1\u9152\u5e97\u548c\u4e2d\u592e\u7684\u7075\u6d3b\u7a7a\u95f4\u3002\u540c\u65f6\uff0c\u503e\u659c\u7684\u5824\u5cb8\u8bbe\u7f6e\u5728\u4e2d\u5fc3\u7684\u5f27\u5f62\u957f\u6905\u540e\u65b9\uff0c\u51cf\u5c11\u4e86\u9700\u8981\u4ece\u73b0\u573a\u6e05\u79fb\u7684\u571f\u65b9\u91cf\u3002<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 160px;\">As a formerly industrial landscape and today a live construction site, the Glassfields Meanwhile Park did not present favourable conditions for introducing planting. Compacted soil, rubble and existing below ground services meant the site would require imported soil and improvement works in order to sustain ornamental planting. We wanted to promote sustainable development as well as minimise construction activity so to avoid noise and air pollution which might impact on the experiences of hotel guests and office workers. Further to this we looked to avoid importing large quantities of soil; helping us to achieve our sustainability goals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 160px;\">We worked with Wildflower Turf Ltd. to establish a suitable wildflower turf that would thrive at Glassfields with minimal imported soil &#8211; 150mm depth of topsoil. Ornamental planting areas were designed away from existing below ground services and where their impact would be felt most &#8211; against the hotel and central flexible space. Whilst sloping banks set behind the curved benches at the centre reduced the amount of soil to be removed from site.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 160px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 160px;\">\u89c2\u8d4f\u6027\u690d\u7269\u642d\u914d\u5305\u62ec\u5df2\u77e5\u7684\u5177\u6709\u611f\u5b98\u4ef7\u503c\u7684\u7269\u79cd\uff0c\u5982\u6563\u53d1\u9999\u6c14\u7684\u85b0\u8863\u8349\u548c\u9f20\u5c3e\u8349\uff0c\u4ee5\u53ca\u5f53\u6e38\u5ba2\u64e6\u8eab\u800c\u8fc7\u65f6\u80fd\u6fc0\u53d1\u5176\u89e6\u89c9\u7684\u9a6c\u97ad\u8349\u548c\u91ce\u82b1\u8349\u5730\u3002<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 160px;\">Glassfields forms an urban oasis for visitors, the success of which is due to the way the design connects people with nature. The design incorporates meandering paths with seating places which are enveloped by ornamental planting and wilflower meadows. The central flexible space is enclosed by sensory planting banks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 160px;\">The ornamental planting palette includes species with known sensory values. Such as, Lavandula angustifolia and Salvia officinalis for smell, Verbena bonariensis for movement and the wildflower meadows encourage a sense of touch as visitors brush style=\"padding-left: 160px;\">\u201cThe timber used for the Glassfields project was reclaimed Greenheart timber from Weymouth harbour. Originally this would have been vertical piled horizontal timbers to form the harbour or piers. We purchased 9 meter long 400&#215;400 sections from a Dorset based reclamation company, the first 4 meters or so had been driven into the clay of the harbour and this is the section we used for the benches as it was as good as the day it went in. The reclamation company says it was 100 years old, on the second image you can see the timber has been hand dressed. The top section that had been in the tide line was quite worn; we later used this on another project. \u7c89\u672b\u6d82\u5c42\u3002\u4f4d\u4e8e\u5165\u53e3\u5904\u7684\u9192\u76ee\u7acb\u67f1\u6807\u5fd7\u7740\u4e3b\u8981\u7684\u5165\u53e3\uff0c\u5e76\u901a\u8fc7\u5782\u76f4\u80cc\u5149\u5b57\u4f53\u5f3a\u8c03\u7167\u660e\u3002<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 160px;\">Bespoke elements for improved wayfinding and sense of place. The lighting design of the meanwhile masterplan has been carefully considered from the early concept design stage. Ensuring the public realm provides a safe and navigable space for users is essential to its success as well as reducing risk the of anti social behaviour within the area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 160px;\">The bespoke lighting columns form an essential component in the meanwhile wayfinding and lighting strategy. Designed in house at the B|D Studio in Tewkesbury and are designed to be relocated within the final Glassfields scheme. Manufactured locally by Rank Engineering, the columns are made using galvanised steel with a powder coated finish in Anthracite Grey (RAL 7016).
