RENGARCH<\/a>+KEYWORKS<\/a><\/strong>: The architects Key Wang (KEYWORKS) + Rengran Zhang (RENGARCH) designed a Ceremonial Hall Building in the rural countryside near Luoyang in Henan province in China. An ensemble of buildings and public spaces, which consists of a ceremonial hall, spaces for contemplation, living and farming, shaping a new community place for visitors and villagers alike.<\/p>\n

The project started in 2017, when a local couple invited us to visit\u00a0their hometown.\u00a0As part of the design process we lived several months on the countryside like villagers. This brought us important insights into the local\u00a0lifestyle. Over three years of research, design and construction\uff0cwe experienced rural life though all seasons and became accepted friends of the village.<\/p>\n

\u9879\u76ee\u7684\u6311\u6218\u6765\u81ea\u4e8e\u4fdd\u7559\u5f53\u5730\u4f20\u7edf\u7684\u540c\u65f6\u7ed9\u6751\u6c11\u548c\u5230\u8bbf\u8005\u5e26\u6765\u65b0\u7684\u4ef7\u503c\uff0c\u5efa\u8bbe\u4e00\u4e2a\u5171\u540c\u7684\u57fa\u7840\u4ee5\u6b64\u4fc3\u8fdb\u5f53\u5730\u53ef\u6301\u7eed\u7684\u751f\u6001\u73af\u5883\u53d1\u5c55\u3002\u901a\u8fc7\u8bbe\u8ba1\uff0c\u6211\u4eec\u5e0c\u671b\u4e3a\u4e61\u6751\u63d0\u5347\u793e\u533a\u3001\u7ecf\u6d4e\u548c\u6587\u5316\u7684\u4ef7\u503c\u3002<\/p>\n

We see our challenge in preserving domestic knowledge and traditions\u00a0with a new function for the villagers and future visitors from the\u00a0city. Building a new\u00a0common ground, can increase a return of\u00a0young people, hope for villagers and even, new\u00a0perspectives for a sustainable future. Learning from each other with respecting the\u00a0past and the present of this place – the genius loci.<\/p>\n

Our design vision is to create a new type of building for this region and reconnect the tradition of agriculture – like worshipping heaven and earth – and\u00a0celebrate moments of life in a hall for ceremonial activities. A new space\u00a0for everyone to preserve and create new memories towards a future\u00a0rural-urban community with sensitivity for time, nature and local culture.<\/p>\n

\u901a\u8fc7\u5bf9\u573a\u5730\u5468\u8fb9\u5927\u91cf\u7684\u8c03\u7814\uff0c\u6211\u4eec\u53d1\u73b0\u4e86\u5f53\u5730\u65e9\u671f\u6c11\u5c45\u2014\u571f\u7a91\uff0c\u4ee5\u53ca\u540e\u671f\u4ee5\u62f1\u5238\u5f62\u5f0f\u4e3a\u5355\u4f4d\u7684\u7ea2\u7816\u6c11\u5c45\u3002\u6211\u4eec\u5c06\u8fd9\u79cd\u5f62\u5f0f\u770b\u4e3a\u5f53\u5730\u5177\u6709\u60c5\u611f\u8bb0\u5fc6\u7684\u5efa\u7b51\u8bed\u8a00\uff0c\u5e76\u5c06\u5b83\u5ef6\u7528\u5230\u5f53\u4ee3\u7684\u7a7a\u95f4\u5f62\u5f0f\u4e0e\u529f\u80fd\u4e2d\uff0c\u5c1d\u8bd5\u53bb\u53d1\u6398\u65b0\u7684\u8868\u73b0\u53ef\u80fd\u6027\u3002<\/p>\n

Through numerous dialogues and research in the neighborhood area, we found a common archetype of house – the earth cave house in the form of an arch. The later forms combine houses with red brick elements with more arches. We continue the common language of arches and red bricks combined with new functions and new spacial dimensions.<\/p>\n

\u5728\u5c71\u5ce6\u4e0e\u6c34\u5858\u4e4b\u95f4\uff0c\u6751\u5e84\u5c0f\u9053\u65c1\uff0c\u7ea2\u7816\u56f4\u5899\u6807\u8bb0\u4e86\u901a\u5f80\u5706\u7b52\u578b\u8f6c\u89d2\u5efa\u7b51\u7684\u5c0f\u8def\uff0c\u4e3a\u6211\u4eec\u6253\u5f00\u4e86\u4e00\u4e2a\u5165\u53e3\u5e7f\u573a\u3002<\/p>\n

\u53c2\u89c2\u8005\u8fdb\u5165\u5230\u4e94\u4e2a\u7816\u62f1\u7684\u95e8\u5eca\u548c\u5706\u7b52\u578b\u5efa\u7b51\u7684\u7ec4\u5408\u3002\u5706\u5f62\u5c4b\u9876\u4ee5\u6e05\u6670\u7684\u5f62\u5f0f\u7ed3\u6784\u9a7e\u4e8e\u63d2\u5165\u7684\u7a7a\u95f4\u4e4b\u4e0a\u3002\u4eea\u5f0f\u5385\u7684\u5916\u90e8\u5f27\u5899\u63d2\u5165\u88ab\u5706\u5f62\u5c4b\u9876\u754c\u5b9a\u7684\u5185\u90e8\uff0c\u8f6f\u5316\u4e86\u7a7a\u95f4\u7684\u6b63\u53cd\u5173\u7cfb\uff0c\u8fd9\u79cd\u5173\u7cfb\u9010\u6b65\u5c06\u53c2\u89c2\u8005\u5e26\u5411\u4e86\u5f00\u9614\u7684\u7530\u56ed\u5165\u53e3\u3002<\/p>\n

Meandering like a ribbon, a red brick wall leads the visitor from the street to a round corner building which marks the entrance to a place, lined with straight walls that opens towards the south in a representative gesture.<\/p>\n

The visitors approach the ceremonial hall building through a corridor enclosed by five arches. <\/span> The corridor leads to a yard formed by an arrangement of different directions. <\/span> The building keeps single walls and roofs which are placed to create framed views within the yard. <\/span> Each view was chosen carefully by the architects to make the visit a sensual experience. <\/span> Inside – Outside, Nature, Light and Shadow and transparency were\u00a0the key questions during the design process.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The semi circular shaped ceremonial hall is an enclosed space with a totally open roof and an opening in the wall. <\/span> While the opening frames the surrounding nature, the beam structure of the roof creates a play of shadow and light. <\/span> The beams remind us of a solar clockwork and shall intensify the visitors perception of time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The facility building is located south of the site. <\/span> The long rectangular building with rounded corners and 12 arches as a prominent facade element that open towards the south view, offers spaces for reflecting, cooking, dining, tea ceremonies, reading, painting, reading, meditating, family activity, sleeping, bathroom and storage space.<\/span><\/p>\n
