WeLive Architects<\/strong><\/a>: Dongcun is located on a hilltop next to Jialing Bridge in Shangqing Temple, Chongqing . It was once the former residence of Xian Ying. The original building complex belonged to Chongqing Light Industry Design Institute, with four original buildings. One below, the other three above in a U-shaped layout according to the mountainous terrain. The opening of U faces the Jialing River. A bomb shelter from the war period is preserved underneath the building complex, connecting the Jialing River Binjiang road downhill with the Dongcun on the hill.<\/p>\n

\u6574\u4e2a\u573a\u5730\u4f4d\u4e8e\u4e00\u4e2a\u7c7b\u4f3c\u4e8e\u6865\u5934\u5821\u7684\u9192\u76ee\u4f4d\u7f6e\uff0c\u81ea\u8eab\u4e5f\u5177\u6709\u5927\u9762\u79ef\u7684\u4e34\u6c5f\u89c6\u754c\uff0c\u5374\u56e0\u4ea4\u901a\u4e0d\u4fbf\u6210\u4e3a\u4e00\u79cd\u5b9e\u4f53\u610f\u4e49\u4e0a\u7684\u201c\u623f\u4e2d\u8c61\u201d,\u867d\u7136\u5728\u57ce\u5e02\u4e2d\u4f53\u91cf\u5de8\u5927\u5374\u96be\u4ee5\u5f97\u5230\u8fc7\u5f80\u4eba\u6d41\u7684\u6ce8\u610f\u548c\u95ee\u6d25\uff0c\u6bcf\u65e5\u95f4\u5982\u540c\u4e00\u7247\u5b64\u4e91\u60ac\u4e8e\u7199\u6518\u7684\u6865\u5934\u3002\u4e5f\u6b63\u662f\u573a\u6240\u7684\u8fd9\u4e00\u7279\u8d28\u6fc0\u53d1\u4e86\u5efa\u7b51\u5e08\u6700\u65e9\u7684\u7075\u611f\uff1a\u5929\u7a7a\u4e4b\u57ce\uff0c\u4e00\u5ea7\u4fef\u77b0\u65e5\u5e38\u70df\u706b\u7684\u975e\u65e5\u5e38\u5730\u754c\u3002<\/p>\n

The entire site is located in a striking location similar to a bridgehead with a large river view. Due to the lack of transportation, it has become \u2018elephant in the room\u2019 in the true sense: although it has a large volume in the city, it is difficult to get the attention of passers-by. It’s like a lonely cloud hanging over the bustling bridgehead every day. This specialty of the place inspired the designer’s original idea: the Sky City, a non-daily place overlooking the daily life.<\/p>\n

\u6211\u4eec\u5e0c\u671b\u5c06\u827a\u672f\u690d\u5165\u5386\u53f2\u5c55\u793a\uff0c\u901a\u8fc7\u5730\u4e0b\u7cfb\u7edf\uff08\u8fc7\u53bb\uff09\u5730\u4e0a\u7cfb\u7edf\uff08\u5f53\u4e0b\u3001\u672a\u6765\uff09\u8ba9\u6e38\u5ba2\u5728\u9879\u76ee\u4e2d\u5b8c\u6210\u4e00\u6b21\u6700\u91cd\u5e86\u7684\u65f6\u5149\u4e4b\u65c5\u3002\u540c\u65f6\u517c\u987e\u9879\u76ee\u529f\u80fd\u7684\u8f6c\u53d8\uff0c\u5546\u4e1a\u5e03\u5c40\u53ca\u8bbe\u8ba1\u6982\u5ff5\u4e2d\u690d\u5165\u4e86\u5929\u7a7a\u4e4b\u57ce\u7684\u610f\u5411\uff0c\u5e0c\u671b\u4eba\u4eec\u80fd\u591f\u5728\u5176\u4e2d\u8131\u79bb\u57ce\u5e02\u7684\u91cd\u538b\u91cd\u83b7\u81ea\u6211\u3002<\/p>\n

We wish to present the history in an artistic way and give tourists a Chongqing Style time travel by creating an underground system (past) and an overground system(now and future). With the functional changes, commercial layout and the design concept of sky city, we hope people could get away from the pressure and reborn.<\/p>\n

\u53e6\u4e00\u79cd\u72ec\u8f9f\u8e4a\u5f84\uff0c\u501f\u52a9\u73b0\u5b58\u7684\u9632\u7a7a\u6d1e\u4f5c\u4e3a\u5165\u53e3\uff0c\u5728\u5c71\u4f53\u5185\u65b0\u5efa\u4e86\u4e24\u90e8\u5782\u76f4\u7535\u68af\u8fde\u63a5\u5c71\u4e0b\u7684\u516c\u8def\u548c\u5c71\u4e0a\u7684\u5e7f\u573a\u3002\u89e3\u51b3\u4ea4\u901a\u95ee\u9898\u7684\u540c\u65f6\uff0c\u89c2\u5149\u5ba2\u5728\u5c71\u4f53\u4e2d\u4e58\u5750\u7535\u68af\u65f6\u4f1a\u4ea7\u751f\u4e00\u79cd\u4ece\u5730\u9762\u5230\u5929\u7a7a\uff0c\u4ece\u5386\u53f2\u5230\u672a\u6765\u7684\u5f3a\u70c8\u6697\u793a\u3002<\/p>\n

The transformation began with the reorganization of several paths to the sky, with two main ways of access, one following the status quo, through the existing walkway, visitors can climb slowly through the rich shade of Dongcun.<\/p>\n

The other is a unique approach, using the existing bomb shelter as an entrance, with two new vertical elevators inside the hill to connect the road below and the plaza on the hill. <\/span> The elevators create a strong hint of a journey from the ground(past) to the sky(future) when visitors go up and down. <\/span> Meanwhile they solved the traffic problem.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u5728\u5c71\u4e0a\uff0c\u8bbe\u8ba1\u56e2\u961f\u5219\u91cd\u65b0\u68b3\u7406\u4e86\u805a\u843d\u4e2d\u7684\u52a8\u7ebf\u548c\u89c6\u754c\u3002\u65b0\u5efa\u4e86\u8bf8\u4e2a\u7a7a\u4e2d\u8fde\u5eca\u548c\u697c\u68af\u4e32\u8054\u4e86\u6240\u6709\u7684\u5c4b\u9876\u5e73\u53f0\u3002\u5c06\u4fef\u77b0\u6c5f\u666f\u7684\u573a\u6240\u4ece\u4ec5\u9650\u4e8eU\u5b57\u5f62\u5e03\u5c40\u4e2d\u592e\u7684\u4e34\u6c5f\u5e7f\u573a\u6269\u5927\u5230\u6574\u4e2a\u5efa\u7b51\u7fa4\u4f53\u7684\u5c4b\u9876\u533a\u57df\uff0c\u6700\u5927\u9650\u5ea6\u7684\u6fc0\u6d3b\u4e86\u539f\u6709\u5efa\u7b51\u7684\u6c5f\u666f\u8d44\u6e90\uff0c\u5f62\u6210\u4e86\u8d2f\u901a\u4e0a\u4e0b\u7684\u6d04\u6e38\u52a8\u7ebf\u3002<\/p>\n

On the hill, the design team reorganized the traffic flow and horizon of the complex. <\/span> The new built sky corridors and staircases connected all the roof platforms. <\/span> The river view space was extended from the riverside plaza in the center of the U-shaped layout to the rooftops of the entire building complex, maximized the river view of the original building, formed a traffic flow running up and down.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u76f8\u5bf9\u4e8e\u5916\u90e8\u5f00\u9614\u7684\u6c5f\u666f\uff0c\u539f\u59cb\u5efa\u7b51\u5185\u90e8\u5448\u73b0\u7684\u5374\u662f\u53e6\u4e00\u756a\u666f\u8c61\u3002\u539f\u6709\u7ed3\u6784\u5f62\u5f0f\u4ee5\u627f\u91cd\u5899\u4e3a\u4e3b\uff0c\u53d7\u6b64\u9650\u5236\uff0c\u5efa\u7b51\u5185\u90e8\u5c01\u95ed\u4e14\u6666\u6697\u3002<\/p>\n

In contrast to the open river view outside, the interior of the original building presents a different scene. <\/span> The original structure is mainly load-bearing wall, which caused the interior of the building confined and dark.<\/span><\/p>\n

In order to meet the future commercial use, the transformation of structure and space is imperative. <\/span> On one hand, the traditional load-bearing wall structure is transformed into modern frame through construction by stages. <\/span> On the other hand, the river view inside the building is maximized through reasonable demolition and reorganization of the wall aside the river.<\/span><\/p>\n

For the facade renovation, we did not deliberately let the building hedge with the environment to make the so-called uniqueness and stand out. <\/span> Instead, we adopted a “disappearing” attitude. <\/span> Hundreds of white metal mesh cages were hung on the facade and organized together in a changeable form, softening the boundaries of the building and making it \u2018disappear\u2019 into the sky. <\/span> It is only when people walk very close to the building that their vision and interest are awakened by the facade of contemporary installations rich in detail and composition.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u8bbe\u8ba1\u56e2\u961f\u6452\u5f03\u4e86\u4f20\u7edf\u677f\u6750\u548c\u6d82\u6599\u7684\u7acb\u9762\u624b\u6cd5\uff0c\u4ee5\u4e00\u79cd\u4f4e\u6280\u7684\u5efa\u9020\u4ecb\u5165\u5efa\u7b51\u66f4\u65b0\u3002\u4e3a\u4e86\u9632\u6b62\u7b3c\u4f53\u7684\u9508\u8680\uff0c\u91d1\u5c5e\u7f51\u91c7\u53d6\u4e86\u94a2\u4e1d\u8868\u9762\u55b7\u5851\u7684\u505a\u5de5\u800c\u975e\u4e0d\u9508\u94a2\uff0c\u6781\u5927\u7684\u964d\u4f4e\u4e86\u6210\u672c\u3002<\/p>\n

The design team abandoned the traditional facade method of plates and paints, updated the building in a low-tech way. <\/span> In order to prevent the cage from rusting, the metal mesh adopts the surface spray treatment instead of stainless steel, which greatly reduces the cost.<\/span><\/p>\n

The original landscape of the site resembles the traditional roof space of Chongqing, a world full of pot plants and trees. <\/span> During the renovation, the greenery of the site was reorganized in order to obtain more river viewing platforms and to reduce the overburden pressure of the old building. <\/span> The originally disorganized plants are designed into visual levels of near, middle and far.<\/span><\/p>\n

The three big trees in the east side of the plaza have been preserved so that people in the building can enjoy a distant view of the river through the trees. <\/span> Comparing to the low-key style of the building\u2019s facade, the plaza and indoor public areas were boldly painted bright and vibrant colors in the gray city of Chongqing.<\/span><\/p>\n
