Montr\u00e9al-based studio Daily tous les jours\u2019 presents the most ambitious edition of their Musical Pavement series, River Lines, an interactive, wave-patterned pavement embedded with 62 sensing light rings to get people moving through musical collaboration exercises.<\/p>\n

Developed through research, interviews and engagement workshops with the local community and developer HIP, the artwork is a response to the historical nature of the site and is an exemplar of how investment in the public realm is essential to reimagine and activate places and encourage collective interactions.<\/p>\n

Place your foot or wheel on a light ring to play a note. With different instrument sections (kalimba, piano, guitar, kora, harp, violin) assigned to positions across the pavement\u2019s surface, players connect the dots to create arpeggiated clusters of notes that harmonize along with the playing of others to create one rich tapestry of music.<\/p>\n

A large screen overlooking River Lines plots the players\u2019 movements on an animated map for everyone watching.<\/p>\n

Music emanates from the ground as if by magic. Twelve in-house tailored audio tiles have no visible hardware and blend into the pavement pattern. Their design is created for Daily tous les jours’ Musical Pavement series, with a design that resists outdoor conditions and is suitable for permanent installation. River Lines \u662f HIP\u00a0\u5f00\u53d1\u516c\u53f8\u59d4\u6258 Daily tous les jours \u4e3a Gaslight District \u8d2d\u7269\u4e2d\u5fc3\u521b\u4f5c\u7684\u4e24\u4ef6\u4f5c\u54c1\u4e4b\u4e00\uff0c\u4e5f\u662f\u5176 \u201c\u6b22\u4e50\u5b9e\u9a8c\u201d\u613f\u666f\u7684\u4e00\u90e8\u5206\uff0c\u65e8\u5728\u901a\u8fc7\u6e38\u620f\u548c\u4e92\u52a8\u4fc3\u8fdb\u793e\u533a\u53d1\u5c55\u3002<\/p>\n

The Gaslight District is a mixed-use development built on the site of a 19th century foundry, when the region was known as \u201cthe Manchester of Canada.\u201d Today the region’s industry leans more high tech, with manufacturing in technologies like robotics and satellites, while also being home to the University of Waterloo, one of Canada\u2019s leading institutions for advanced scientific research.<\/p>\n

Scott Higgins, President of HIP Developments, and developer of the Gaslight District said: \u201cUsing music, light and imagination, Hello, Hello and River Lines play an integral role in the revitalisation and revival of the district, transforming it into a place of social interaction and play for urban dwellers.
