Re-enchantment Landscape Design<\/strong><\/a>: It\u2019s said that this is a toilet designed to bring good fortune\u2014\u201cPlain Sailing\u201d. Water is the soul of Nanhai. The local belief that \u201cwater equals wealth\u201d and the common wish for \u201cPlain Sailing\u201d reflect a simple, sincere aspiration. A 24-hour aerator hums away, a loudspeaker frequently issues announcements, and lights blink and pulsate as if alive. Things accumulate energy in the continuous and dynamic rotation. With a humorous touch and vibrant local slang, the installation warmly invites fashionable young men and women to step inside.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u987a\u98ce\u987a\u6c34\u201d\u662f\u590d\u9b45\u666f\u89c2\u5409\u6676\u4e3a\u5357\u6d77\u5927\u5730\u827a\u672f\u8282\u8bbe\u8ba1\u548c\u6539\u9020\u7684\u516c\u5395\u827a\u672f\u88c5\u7f6e\uff0c\u4f5c\u4e3a\u672c\u6b21\u7279\u522b\u677f\u5757\u201c\u5728\u5730\u827a\u672f\u521b\u4f5c\u8425\u201d\u4e2d\u7684\u91cd\u8981\u8282\u70b9\uff0c\u7d27\u6328\u4e5d\u6c5f\u9547\u9f99\u821f\u8bad\u7ec3\u57fa\u5730\u5165\u6c34\u57d7\u5934\u548c\u749c\u77f6\u793e\u533a\u5411\u5317\u6751\u53f2\u9986\u3002\u5728\u5bf9\u573a\u5730\u6301\u7eed\u7684\u89c2\u5bdf\u548c\u8c03\u7814\u8fc7\u7a0b\u4e2d\uff0c\u53d1\u73b0\u516c\u5395\u7684\u4f7f\u7528\u6d3b\u8dc3\u5ea6\u975e\u5e38\u9ad8\u4e14\u4f7f\u7528\u8005\u8eab\u4efd\u591a\u6837\u3002\u5728\u56fd\u5185\u5916\u83b7\u5956\u65e0\u6570\u7684\u4e5d\u6c5f\u9f99\u7537\u5973\u5b50\u9f99\u821f\u961f\u3001\u9493\u9c7c\u53d1\u70e7\u53cb\u3001\u9732\u8425\u7231\u597d\u8005\u3001\u9e1f\u7c7b\u6444\u5f71\u7231\u597d\u8005\u51e0\u4e4e\u6bcf\u5929\u90fd\u5728\u73b0\u573a\uff0c\u5f53\u7136\u66f4\u91cd\u8981\u7684\u662f\u6751\u6c11\u5bf9\u573a\u5730\u7684\u4f7f\u7528\uff0c\u516c\u5395\u548c\u6751\u53f2\u9986\u4e4b\u95f4\u7684\u5e7f\u573a\u662f\u6751\u6c11\u529e\u5bb4\u5e2d\u7684\u56fa\u5b9a\u573a\u6240\u3002\u672c\u6b21\u8bbe\u8ba1\u4e0e\u6539\u9020\uff0c\u4e0d\u662f\u4e3a\u4e86\u4f7f\u5395\u6240\u53d8\u7684\u66f4\u5149\u9c9c\u4e0e\u8c6a\u534e\uff0c\u4e5f\u65e0\u9700\u7f8e\u5316\u4e3a\u4e0d\u50cf\u5395\u6240\u7684\u5176\u4ed6\u5efa\u7b51\uff0c\u800c\u662f\u5728\u4e0d\u6253\u6270\u73b0\u72b6\u7684\u57fa\u7840\u4e0a\uff0c\u901a\u8fc7\u827a\u672f\u521b\u4f5c\uff0c\u7ed9\u65e5\u5e38\u4f7f\u7528\u8005\u5e26\u6765\u60ca\u559c\u548c\u60f3\u8c61\uff0c\u4e3a\u5927\u5730\u827a\u672f\u8282\u6e38\u5ba2\u589e\u52a0\u7ec6\u81f4\u5165\u5fae\u7684\u611f\u53d7\u3002<\/p>\n

\u201cPlain Sailing\u201d is an art installation and public toilet renovation created by Jijing from Re-Enchantment Landscape for the Nanhai Land Art Festival. Part of the \u201cLocal Art Creation Camp\u201d, it sits right beside the entrance to the Jiujiang Town dragon boat training base, next to the Huangji Community Xiangbei village history hall. During the continuous observation and research of the site, it was found that the public toilet is used frequently by a diverse range of people: the internationally acclaimed men\u2019s and women\u2019s Jiujiang dragon boat teams, avid anglers, camping enthusiasts, and bird photographers are here almost daily. More importantly, the plaza between the toilet and the village history museum is a regular venue for village banquets. Rather than making the toilet more luxurious or disguising it as something else, our goal is to introduce artistic interventions without disturbing its current state\u2014bringing moments of surprise and imagination to everyday users, and offering visitors to the Land Art Festival a more subtle, attentive experience.<\/p>\n

\u53e4\u8001\u7684\u5357\u756a\u987a\u662f\u4e00\u7247\u6c6a\u6d0b\u5927\u6d77\uff0c\u5b8b\u4ee5\u540e\u51fa\u73b0\u4e86\u5927\u91cf\u56f4\u57a6\uff0c\u9010\u6e10\u5f62\u6210\u4e86\u4eca\u5929\u6211\u4eec\u770b\u5230\u7684\u6c34\u7f51-\u6d32\u5c9b-\u9646\u5730\u7684\u683c\u5c40\u3002\u5728\u65e0\u6570\u6b21\u6765\u5f80\u4e8e\u5357\u756a\u987a\u7684\u8fc7\u7a0b\u4e2d\uff0c\u6211\u4eec\u770b\u5230\u7684\u53e4\u9053\u3001\u53e4\u7960\u3001\u53e4\u6995\u3001\u62f1\u6865\u3001\u57fa\u5858\u3001\u57d7\u5934\u3001\u6e14\u6b4c\u3001\u97ad\u70ae\u3001\u9f13\u4e50\uff0c\u8fd9\u662f\u4f5c\u4e3a\u4f20\u7edf\u5cad\u5357\u6c34\u4e61\u4e3a\u4eba\u719f\u77e5\u7684\u90e8\u5206\uff1b\u53e6\u5916\u6570\u4e0d\u80dc\u6570\u7684\u5236\u9020\u4e1a\u5382\u623f\uff08\u6c34\u6ce5\u3001\u7802\u77f3\u3001\u5851\u6599\u3001\u6728\u6750\u3001\u5bb6\u5c45\u3001\u7eba\u7ec7\u2026\uff09\u3001\u519c\u6c11\u623f\u3001\u6c34\u9053\u8fb9\u770b\u4f3c\u6ca1\u6709\u7ae0\u6cd5\u7684\u642d\u5efa\uff0c\u90a3\u4e5f\u662f\u897f\u6c5f\u8fb9\u5178\u578b\u7684\u5f53\u4ee3\u666f\u89c2\u3002\u5047\u5982\u628a\u4e5d\u6c5f\u6bd4\u4f5c\u4e00\u4e2a\u6709\u673a\u4f53\uff0c\u5feb\u901f\u8def\u9ad8\u901f\u8def\u548c\u5927\u6c5f\u5927\u6cb3\u662f\u5b83\u7684\u52a8\u8109\uff0c\u7530\u57c2\u6cb3\u6d8c\u5c31\u662f\u5b83\u7684\u9759\u8109\uff0c\u90a3\u4e9b\u9c7c\u5858\u679c\u6797\u662f\u5b83\u7684\u7ec6\u80de\uff0c\u5b83\u4eec\u6bcf\u5929\u4e50\u6b64\u4e0d\u75b2\u7684\u8f93\u9001\u7740\u517b\u5206\u3002\u8fd9\u4e9b\u52a8\u8109\u3001\u9759\u8109\u548c\u7ec6\u80de\u6784\u6210\u4e86\u5357\u6d77\u4e5d\u6c5f\u751f\u547d\u7684\u6709\u673a\u4f53\u3002\u501f\u7531\u5357\u6d77\u5927\u5730\u827a\u672f\u8282\uff0c\u662f\u5bf9\u8fd9\u4e2a\u751f\u547d\u6709\u673a\u4f53\u8fdb\u884c\u4e00\u6b21\u6df1\u6df1\u7684\u6253\u91cf\u548c\u63a2\u7a76\u3002<\/p>\n

The ancient Nanhai, Panyu and Shunde areas were a vast expanse of sea. After the Song Dynasty, extensive land reclamation gradually shaped today\u2019s network of waterways, islands, and landforms. On countless trips through Nanhai, Panyu and Shunde, one encounters old paths, ancestral halls, ancient banyan trees, arching bridges, dike-pond systems, boat landings, fishermen\u2019s songs, firecrackers, and drum music\u2014familiar elements of a traditional Lingnan water village. At the same time, numerous factories (for cement, sand, plastic, wood, furniture, textiles, and more), farmers\u2019 homes, and seemingly haphazard structures along waterways present a distinctly contemporary scene on the banks of the Xijiang River. If Jiujiang is seen as a living organism, then its expressways and mighty rivers serve as arteries, while field ridges and canals form its veins, and fishponds and orchards act as its cells. Each day, these components tirelessly transport nutrients, keeping life thriving. Together, these arteries, veins, and cells compose the organic life force of Nanhai\u2019s Jiujiang. The Nanhai Field\u00a0Art Festival provides an opportunity to deeply observe and explore this living entity.<\/p>\n

This installation incorporates numerous found elements\u2014some planned, some improvised. You\u2019ll find old iron doors, pipes of all kinds (for drainage, exhaust, ventilation), valves, color-coated steel sheets, traffic lights (for waterways, sprinkler trucks, garbage trucks, heavy trucks, and traffic warnings), fishpond aerators, breeding tubes, fishbone antennas, and so forth\u2014materials drawn from everyday production and life. Whatever the eye sees can be put to use. There\u2019s no aversion to modern materials commonly used by local villagers, such as color-coated steel panels or ceramic tiles. They\u2019re \u201cgood and sturdy\u201d, \u201ccheap yet fine\u201d, capturing a slice of everyday Lingnan wisdom.<\/p>\n

\u201cLocality\u201d isn\u2019t about nostalgia\u2014it\u2019s about everyday reality. By connecting local materials with local idioms\u2014phrases like \u201cPlain Sailing\u201d, \u201ca thousand taels of gold\u201d (originally referring to toilet waste), and \u201cas sweet as sugarcane\u201d\u2014we tap into a world that\u2019s fresh, bold, and vivid. These phrases evoke a moment of pouring Jiujiang double-distilled spirits over a sizzling clay pot at a street stall: lively, vivid and full of the flavor of stir-frying.<\/p>\n

All elements on the land are regarded as landscape elements, including sunlight, air, rivers, plants, insects, birds, different people, and, more importantly, the production and living styles, customs, beliefs and taboos formed by the connection of these elements. Here, art functions as a method, not an end in itself. It helps us reflect on the relationships between city and countryside, locals and outsiders, everyday life and tourism, utility and artistry, past and present, tradition and happenstance. In doing so, it allows us to rediscover the spiritual history of a place.<\/p>\n
