It stands as the commercial complex within the district offering direct pedestrian access across the street. The Halo series of projects advocates integrating natural inspiration with local culture to empower regional advancement, positioning itself as a landmark urban natural complex. The evolved Halo 2.0 achieves deeper integration with natural landscapes, offering consumers a unique, seamless transition experience. Since its opening, it has become a phenomenon-level commercial project in Chongqing.<\/p>\n

At the outset of the design, we explored multiple angles to identify an approach that would satisfy local context while remaining sufficiently distinctive to retain visitors. Capitalising on the site’s topographical variations, a distinctively themed canyon space with dramatic elevation changes was conceived. Drawing inspiration from Chongqing’s rugged, towering rock formations, the architecture carves out a 43-metre-deep canyon space. Nine terraces, seamlessly integrated with the natural slope, guide visitors from the plaza adjacent to Central Park, ascending tier by tier to the rooftop promenade. Here, the narrative unfolds.<\/p>\n

How might one overcome vast elevation differences to draw visitors upwards tier by tier, thereby commanding premium commercial value? The Ba Mountains stretch endlessly, with rivers crisscrossing and layered rock formations, the city rises from the earth. As Chongqing, the 8D magical viral sensation, nestled between mountainous gorges and the Yangtze and Jialing rivers, sees annual fish migrations swimming upstream. Generation after generation, they traverse the labyrinthine rock valleys, year after year, encountering the ever-changing grandeur of this land. Reimagining the mountain city through the lens of these migratory fish offers us further fascinating inspiration.<\/p>\n

Using the migration of fish to connect the mountain city’s cascading waterfalls, canyon forests, and hidden canyon sanctuaries. Following the migratory journey of fish, one ascends against the current, culminating in the culmination of life’s migration upon the rooftop. Fish motifs are woven throughout paving, soft furnishings, sculptures, installations, aquariums, and light strips, symbolising the auspicious notion of \u2018abundance.\u2019 Within the confined space, this creates an ecologically rich, high-density experience, transforming the apparent disadvantage of elevation differences into the \u2018code for vertical growth.\u2019<\/p>\n

We have divided the site into three functional zones: Exploration, Play, and Viewing. Exploration: A central axis is formed by the \u2018Fantasy Maze Valley\u2019, featuring the Meandering Theatre, Maze Quest, and Enchanted Sky River \u2013 evoking the sensation of traversing an upward-growing vertical valley. Play: The northern park serves as a connecting link to the commercial complex, integrating the surrounding areas. The park features multiple uses: urban camping, a large activity lawn, and outdoor themed play spaces. Functioning as a commercial backyard, it supports the revitalisation of surrounding plots. Viewing: Facing Tongmao Avenue to the south, this serves as the commercial district’s primary display interface. It requires addressing urban interface shortcomings without emphasising excessive dwell time, with landscaping intervening lightly in a relaxed and natural manner.<\/p>\n

Commercial design inevitably revolves around the principle of attraction, demanding strong capabilities in circulation planning, spatial organisation, and operational thinking. Consequently, we first conducted a comprehensive review of the urban interface, integrating pedestrian flow assessments from transport consultants to consider specific plaza designs at varying scales. The two terminal plazas, serving as primary gathering points for foot traffic, form the focal point of the design. At this interface, we must address elevation differences to facilitate seamless pedestrian circulation, swiftly channelling dense crowds into the commercial areas.<\/p>\n

Following the staircase water feature forward, cascading waterfalls gently descend along the flowerbed facade, while the dry fountain plaza dances to the rhythm of music, composing a dynamic spatial tableau. Centripetal steps ingeniously transform elevation differences into a convergent theatre space, anticipating the diverse event requirements for commercial operations.<\/p>\n

The site resembles a colossal vortex, drawing visitors into the square towards its central vortex musical fountain. The design draws inspiration from the whirlpools of the Yangtze River, embodying a centripetal force. The interwoven rippling fountains, mist forests, and vertical jets mimic the dynamic spectacle of fish leaping from the water’s surface. Consequently, the water effects possess a pronounced sense of direction and conveyance. The ground is adorned with starlight lamps, simulating a celestial display upon the water’s surface.<\/p>\n

Beyond this, the paving incorporates a guiding fish motif, whose centripetal pull and cohesive force draw visitors step by step into the main commercial space. We employed GH to create a visually striking fish symbol that traverses the ground paving of key commercial plazas, serving as a wayfinding element to guide people into the retail area.<\/p>\n
