href=\"https:\/\/lynchinginamerica.eji.org\/report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u300a\u7f8e\u56fd\u79c1\u5211:\u76f4\u9762\u79cd\u65cf\u6050\u6016\u9057\u7559\u95ee\u9898\u300b<\/a>\uff0c\u5171\u8bb0\u5f55\u4e8612\u4e2a\u5dde\u7684\u6570\u5343\u8d77\u79cd\u65cf\u6050\u6016\u79c1\u5211\u3002\u81ea\u62a5\u544a\u53d1\u5e03\u4ee5\u6765\uff0cEJI\u901a\u8fc7\u8bb0\u5f55\u5357\u65b9\u8179\u5730\u4ee5\u5916\u5404\u5dde\u7684\u79cd\u65cf\u6050\u6016\u79c1\u5211\uff0c\u8865\u5145\u4e86\u5176\u6700\u521d\u7684\u7814\u7a76\u3002EJI\u7684\u5de5\u4f5c\u4eba\u5458\u8fd8\u5f00\u5c55\u4e86\u4e00\u9879\u7eaa\u5ff5\u8fd9\u6bb5\u5386\u53f2\u7684\u9879\u76ee\uff0c\u4ed6\u4eec\u53c2\u89c2\u4e86\u6570\u767e\u5904\u79c1\u5211\u9057\u5740\uff0c\u6536\u96c6\u571f\u58e4\uff0c\u5efa\u7acb\u516c\u5171\u6807\u5fd7\u7269\uff0c\u5c3d\u529b\u7528\u66f4\u771f\u5b9e\u3001\u66f4\u51c6\u786e\u5730\u65b9\u5f0f\u53cd\u6620\u6211\u4eec\u5386\u53f2\u7684\u7eaa\u5ff5\u7891\u548c\u7eaa\u5ff5\u7269\uff0c\u4ee5\u6b64\u6765\u91cd\u5851\u6587\u5316\u666f\u89c2\u3002<\/p>\n<p>Work on the memorial began in 2010 when EJI staff began investigating thousands of racial terror lynchings in the American South, many of which had never been documented. EJI was interested not only in lynching incidents, but in understanding the terror and trauma this sanctioned violence against the black community created. Six million black people fled the South as refugees and exiles as a result of these &#8220;racial terror lynchings.&#8221;\u00a0This research ultimately produced \u200b<a href=\"https:\/\/lynchinginamerica.eji.org\/report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lynching in America: Confronting the Legacy of Racial Terror<\/a>\u200b in 2015 which documented thousands of racial terror lynchings in twelve states. Since the report\u2019s release, EJI has supplemented its original research by documenting racial terror lynchings in states outside the Deep South. EJI staff have also embarked on a project to memorialize this history by visiting hundreds of lynching sites, collecting soil, and erecting public markers, in an effort to reshape the cultural landscape with monuments and memorials that more truthfully and accurately reflect our history.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_80577\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-80577\" Akoto-Bamfo\u5408\u4f5c\uff0c\u5f53\u6e38\u5ba2\u8fdb\u5165\u7eaa\u5ff5\u9986\u65f6\uff0c\u4ed6\u4eec\u5c31\u4f1a\u9996\u5148\u770b\u5230\u4ed6\u7684\u5974\u96b6\u5236\u96d5\u5851\uff0c\u7136\u540e\uff0cEJI\u901a\u8fc7\u7f8e\u56fd\u79c1\u5211\u53d7\u5bb3\u8005\u7684\u6587\u5b57\u3001\u53d9\u8ff0\u548c\u7eaa\u5ff5\u7891\uff0c\u5e26\u9886\u6e38\u5ba2\u4ece\u5974\u96b6\u5236\u3001\u79c1\u5211\u548c\u79cd\u65cf\u6050\u6016\u4e2d\u8d70\u51fa\u6765\uff0c\u800c\u5728\u573a\u5730\u4e2d\u5fc3\uff0c\u6e38\u5ba2\u4eec\u4f1a\u770b\u5230\u4e00\u4e2a\u4e0eMASS\u8bbe\u8ba1\u56e2\u961f\u5408\u4f5c\u5efa\u9020\u7684\u7eaa\u5ff5\u5e7f\u573a\u3002\u8fd9\u4e9b\u7eaa\u5ff5\u7ecf\u5386\u4e00\u76f4\u5ef6\u7eed\u5230\u6c11\u6743\u65f6\u4ee3\uff0cDana King\u4e3a\u652f\u6301\u8499\u54e5\u9a6c\u5229\u5df4\u58eb\u62b5\u5236\u8fd0\u52a8\u7684\u5987\u5973\u5236\u4f5c\u4e86\u4e00\u5ea7\u96d5\u5851\uff0c\u4f7f\u7684\u8fd9\u9879\u4e8b\u4ef6\u5f97\u4ee5\u94ed\u8bb0\u3002\u6700\u540e\uff0c\u7eaa\u5ff5\u4e4b\u65c5\u4ee5Hank Willis Thomas\u521b\u4f5c\u7684\u6700\u540e\u4e00\u90e8\u8868\u8fbe\u4e86\u8b66\u5bdf\u66b4\u529b\u548c\u79cd\u65cf\u504f\u89c1\u5211\u4e8b\u53f8\u6cd5\u7684\u5f53\u4ee3\u95ee\u9898\u7684\u4f5c\u54c1\u4f5c\u4e3a\u7ed3\u675f\u3002\u7eaa\u5ff5\u9986\u8fd8\u5c55\u793a\u4e86Toni Morrison\u548cElizabeth Alexander\u7684\u4f5c\u54c1\u3001\u9a6c\u4e01\u00b7\u8def\u5fb7\u00b7\u91d1(Martin Luther King Jr.)\u535a\u58eb\u7684\u9057\u8a00\u3001\u4ee5\u53ca\u4e00\u4e2a\u7eaa\u5ff5Ida B. Wells\u7684\u53cd\u601d\u7a7a\u95f4\u3002<\/p>\n<p>The Memorial for Peace and Justice was conceived with the hope of creating a sober, meaningful site where people can gather and reflect on America\u2019s history of racial inequality. EJI partnered with artists like Kwame Akoto-Bamfo, a West African sculptor, whose sculpture on slavery confronts visitors when they first enter the memorial. EJI then leads visitors on a journey from slavery, through lynching and racial terror, with text, narrative, and monuments to the lynching victims in America. In the center of the site, visitors encounter a memorial square, built in collaboration with the MASS Design Group. The memorial experience continues through the civil rights era made visible with a sculpture by Dana King dedicated to the women who sustained the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Finally, the memorial journey ends with contemporary issues of police violence\u00a0and racially biased criminal justice expressed in a final work created by Hank Willis Thomas. The memorial displays writings from Toni Morrison and Elizabeth Alexander, words from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and a reflection space in honor of Ida B. The site includes a memorial square with 800 six-foot monuments to symbolize thousands of racial terror lynching victims in the United States and the counties and states where this terrorism took memorial structure on the center of the site is constructed of over 800 corten steel monuments, one for each county in the United States where a racial terror lynching took place. The names of the lynching victims are engraved on the columns. The memorial is more than a static monument. In the six-acre park surrounding the memorial is a field of identical monuments, waiting to be claimed and installed in the counties they represent. Over time, the national memorial will serve as a report on which parts of the country have confronted the truth of this terror and which have not.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_80599\" Equal Justice Initiative is inviting counties across the country to claim their monument and erect it in its permanent home in the county it represents. Eventually, this process will change the built environment of the Deep South and beyond to more honestly reflect our history. As part of this process, EJI staff are already in conversation with dozens of communities seeking to claim their monument. EJI approaches these conversations \u2014 and all of our community education work \u2014 with thought and care.
