All of the dwelling units are oriented inwardly toward the courtyard or outwardly toward the surrounding streets to prevent the compromise of views or light if the adjacent project should build up to the property line. Additionally, the open end of the courtyard provides an \u201cinvitation\u201d to the future development to respond with similar openness and employ a large, coordinated design move.<\/p>\n

The building\u2019s distinctive entry tower serves as a beacon for the new neighborhood. Fashioned from perforated Cor-ten steel panels and visible from a distance, the open-air stair tower takes its cue from the historically industrial area. At ground level, the rust-toned stair tower cedes to a boulder-strewn courtyard, recalling the shades and shifting forms of the Sierra Foothills.\u00a0This community room opens onto a shared plaza along Bridge Street, creating a flexible, publicly accessible event space.\u00a0The community room offers a TV lounge, lending library, teaching kitchen, seating nooks, and materials for play.<\/p>\n

The design is divided into two residential \u201cbars\u201d that relate to each other across a central courtyard and are joined by open-air breezeways. Along the north fa\u00e7ade, the building features five levels of housing, with ground-level homes that open directly onto the sidewalk via stoops and lend an intimate scale to the relatively large building. To the south, the second bar of housing steps down one level toward a smaller alleyway, which is lined with a planted bio-infiltration swale.<\/p>\n

\u666f\u89c2\u8bbe\u8ba1\u6765\u81ea\u585e\u62c9\u5c71\u9e93\u548c\u8428\u514b\u62c9\u95e8\u6258\u5730\u533a\u7684\u5730\u8d28\u4ee5\u53ca\u5f00\u521b\u6027\u7684\u7535\u5b50\u6e38\u620f\u7684\u900f\u89c6\u51e0\u4f55\uff0c\u5982Galaga\u548cTempest\u3002\u6574\u4e2a\u9879\u76ee\u88ab\u5212\u5206\u4e3a\u4e00\u4e2a\u4e1c\u897f\u8f74\u5411\u7684\u7b49\u5bbd\u4e24\u82f1\u5c3a\u7ebf\u6027\u7f51\u683c\u3002\u5f62\u6001\u548c\u6750\u6599\u6cbf\u7740\u8fd9\u4e2a\u7f51\u683c\u6ed1\u52a8\u548c\u79fb\u52a8\uff0c\u5c31\u50cf\u770b\u4e0d\u89c1\u7684\u6784\u9020\u201c\u5fae\u677f\u5757\u201d\u5728\u7a7a\u95f4\u4e2d\u79fb\u52a8\u4e00\u6837\u3002\u666f\u89c2\u5728\u5f53\u5730\u7684\u5de8\u77f3\u77f3\u5934\u548c\u6df7\u51dd\u571f\u5ea7\u6905\u5899\u4e4b\u95f4\u79fb\u52a8\u7684\u98ce\u666f\uff0c\u5b83\u4eec\u5728\u9879\u76ee\u5fae\u98ce\u9053\u4e2d\u8fdb\u8fdb\u51fa\u51fa\uff0c\u6a21\u7cca\u4e86\u5916\u90e8\u548c\u5185\u90e8\u7a7a\u95f4\u7684\u754c\u9650\u3002<\/p>\n

The landscape design draws inspiration from the geology of the Sierra foothills and the Sacramento region. It is also inspired by pioneering video games, such as Galaga and Tempest, a pioneering video game that featured an exciting perspectival geometry. The entire project is divided into a linear two-foot grid oriented on the east-west axis. Forms and materials slide and move along this grid, as if invisible tectonic “microplates” are moving along through the spaces. The landscape is a shifting of local stone boulders and concrete seatwalls that move in and out of the project breezeways, and blur exterior and interior space.<\/p>\n

\u5e73\u53f0\u5ead\u9662\u6709\u4e00\u4e2a\u793e\u533a\u5206\u914d\u82b1\u56ed\u3001\u4e00\u9762\u6500\u5ca9\u5899\u548c\u4e00\u4e2a\u8f83\u5c0f\u7684\u5e7f\u573a\u3002\u5e7f\u573a\u7684\u8bbe\u8ba1\u6982\u5ff5\u662f\u521b\u5efa\u4e00\u4e2a\u201c\u57ce\u5e02\u6f6e\u6ce2\u201d\uff0c\u4ee5\u4e00\u4e2a\u591a\u6837\u5316\u7684\u6df7\u51dd\u571f\u5899\u7cfb\u7edf\u521b\u9020\u5706\u5f62\u5267\u573a\u5ea7\u4f4d\u548c\u975e\u7ed3\u6784\u5316\u7684\u6e38\u620f\u7a7a\u95f4\u3002\u4e2d\u5fc3\u7684\u201c\u6e38\u6cf3\u6c60\u201d\u88ab\u5496\u5561\u9986\u7684\u706f\u5149\u73af\u7ed5\uff0c\u9876\u90e8\u662f\u53ef\u6500\u722c\u85e4\u8513\u7684\u7535\u7ebf\u3002\u5e73\u53f0\u4e0a\u7684\u690d\u7269\u53c2\u8003\u4e86\u57fa\u5730\u5468\u56f4\u591a\u6837\u5316\u7684\u519c\u4e1a\uff0c\u56e0\u6b64\u6839\u636e\u4e25\u683c\u7684\u8f74\u7ebf\u6392\u6210\u4e00\u6392\u3002\u690d\u7269\u6750\u6599\u5c31\u50cf\u786c\u666f\u89c2\u7684\u5f62\u5f0f\u4e00\u6837\uff0c\u5728\u4e0d\u540c\u7684\u65f6\u95f4\u5f00\u82b1\uff0c\u4e3a\u9e1f\u7c7b\u548c\u4f20\u7c89\u52a8\u7269\u63d0\u4f9b\u8425\u517b\u3002<\/p>\n

The podium courtyard has a community allotment garden, a climbing wall, and smaller plazas. The concept for the plazas was to create an \u201curban tidepool\u201d, a varied concrete wall system that offers amphitheater seating and unstructured play. The center \u201cpool\u201d is ringed by caf\u00e9 lighting and topped with wires for climbing vines. The plantings at the podium reference the diverse agriculture surrounding the site, and so are arranged in rows, on a strict axis. Like the hardscape forms, the plant materials shift past each other in rows, blooming at different times, and offering nourishment birds and pollinators.<\/p>\n

\u6500\u5ca9\u5899\u7684\u8bbe\u8ba1\u7075\u611f\u6765\u81eaJoy Division\u4e13\u8f91\u300a\u672a\u77e5\u7684\u4e50\u8da3\u300b\u7684\u6807\u5fd7\u6027\u5c01\u9762\uff0c\u5e76\u7ed3\u5408\u970d\u534e\u5fb7\u00b7\u7ea6\u7ff0\u900a\u6c7d\u8f66\u65c5\u9986\u7684\u914d\u8272\u65b9\u6848\u3002<\/p>\n

The climbing wall design draws topographic inspiration from the iconic cover of the Joy Division album Unknown Pleasures, overlaid with a color scheme inspired by Howard Johnson motels.<\/p>\n

\u8be5\u9879\u76ee\u7684\u666f\u89c2\u7eff\u5316\u4ee5\u8010\u65f1\u690d\u7269\u3001\u8282\u6c34\u704c\u6e89\u548c\u96e8\u6c34\u7ba1\u7406\u63aa\u65bd\u4e3a\u7279\u8272\uff0c\u5176\u53ef\u6301\u7eed\u53d1\u5c55\u8bbe\u8ba1\u7684\u7eff\u8272\u8bc4\u5206\u6709\u671b\u8fbe\u5230155\u5206\uff0c\u6bd4\u52a0\u5dde\u5df2\u7ecf\u4e25\u683c\u7684\u7b2c24\u6761\u80fd\u6e90\u6807\u51c6\u9ad8\u51fa15%\u3002\u666f\u89c2\u4e2d\u4f7f\u7528\u7684\u7eff\u8272\u5efa\u7b51\u6750\u6599\u5305\u62ec\u518d\u751f\u94a2\u548c\u9ad8\u7c89\u7164\u7070\u6df7\u51dd\u571f\u3002<\/p>\n

The sustainable design is on track for a GreenPoint Rating of 155 points, exceeding California\u2019s already strict Title 24 energy standards by 15%. Landscaping features drought-tolerant plantings, water efficient irrigation and storm-water-management measures.\u00a0Green building materials used in the landscape include recycled-content steel and high fly-ash concrete.<\/p>\n

\u60ac\u6302\u5728\u4e2d\u592e\u5927\u5385\u5929\u82b1\u677f\u4e0a\u7684\u5b9a\u5236\u201c\u4e91\u201d\u96d5\u5851\uff0c\u5ef6\u7eed\u4e86\u81ea\u7136\u7075\u611f\u7684\u4e3b\u9898\u3002\u666f\u89c2\u8bbe\u8ba1\u5e08\u4e3a\u201c\u4e91\u201d\u5f00\u53d1\u4e86\u53c2\u6570\u5316\u8bbe\u8ba1\u811a\u672c\uff0c\u5e76\u5b8c\u6210\u4e86\u8be5\u96d5\u5851\u7684\u5b89\u88c5\u3002<\/p>\n

Continuing the theme of natural inspiration, \u201cThe Cloud\u201d is a custom sculpture suspended from the ceiling in the central lobby. The landscape architects developed the parametric script for \u201cThe Cloud\u201d, and also installed the project.<\/p>\n
