The courtyards are central to the parti of the new project at the Shrine of Remembrance, and are landscape schemas par excellence. Each has a different function and design character, with a particular narrative and design aesthetic. The plan illustrates the courtyard insertions into the Shrine\u2019s artificial terrace. Each court addresses the diagonal pedestrian approaches. The courtyard plan geometry reflects the forms of the slit bunkers which once occupied the reserve during World War 2.<\/p>\n

The first move was the transplant preparation and installation of the \u201clegacy\u201d Olive tree, prior to completion of the courtyard walls.<\/p>\n

Insitu off-form concrete seat walls echo battlement profiles. They become places for personal wreath laying during major commemorative events.<\/p>\n

\u6bcf\u5e7411\u670811\u65e5\u7684\u7b2c11\u4e2a\u5c0f\u65f6\uff0c\u4e5f\u5c31\u662f\u201c\u4f11\u6218\u7eaa\u5ff5\u65e5\u201d\uff0c\u5ead\u9662\u5899\u58c1\u6295\u5c04\u51fa\u7684\u9634\u5f71\u7ebf\u4e0e\u63d2\u5728\u5ead\u9662\u5730\u9762\u4e0a\u7684\u4e4b\u5b57\u5f62\u5df4\u5c14\u83ab\u52d2\u5c14\u7eff\u8272\u82b1\u5c97\u5ca9\u7ebf\u6761\u4e00\u81f4\u3002<\/p>\n

The shadow-line cast by the courtyard wall at the 11th hour of the 11th day of November each year, Armistice Day, aligns with the zig zag Balmoral Green granite line inserted in the courtyard floor.<\/p>\n

The plinths are recolonised by creeping ground cover, cycad and provide informal seating spaces.<\/p>\n
