Estudio MMX:

Estudio MMX:The invitation to participate in this project, which would take place inside an art gallery, asked us to make a “piece”, which would be exhibited only one night, where we could use an unlimited number of plastic cards, donated by one of the main sponsors of the event. Our immediate reaction was to reiterate that, since they are not plastic artists, the approach of an architecture studio should be based on the integral vision of space. The different circulations and the museographic idea could give us the guideline for an intervention whose value transcends the object and that could have the dimensions of the intervened space.

Was there any inspiration or trend that marked the design of the project?

Fashion, at its best, refers to experimentation, irreverence, transgressed limits, trends, tradition and manufacturing. In many cases, the common denominator is fabrics, wovens, patterns and textures. In a direct and simple reading of these elements and virtues, the study decided to take the only material resource available (sponsor cards) as the basic component of an aggregation system that, like the fabrics, should be simple, flexible, adaptable and, above all, possible to manufacture without the need for machines of numerical control and qualified supervision.

What would be 2 or 3 important ideas to highlight from this project?

The intervention within the gallery, filters and subdivides the space to redirect the flows and the looks, distorting the access that today is exaggeratedly direct.

More than sixteen thousand cards, with three-dimensional attributes resulting from conventional mechanical processes, were assembled under a simple logic. The resulting fabric, suspended in space, which works under the basic principles of a textile, naturally folds to ensure direct leaks and redirect the natural flow of visitors.

The intervention becomes an extension of the envelope fusing in an ephemeral way art, fashion and consumption, with a gesture that discusses space, functions and matter.
