This design for an undeveloped hilltop on Cape Cod limits impact of development on a pristine site. We worked with the architect to minimize the area of disturbance for a new house and secondary buildings surrounded by varied garden spaces. This was accomplished by siting the narrow buildings at right angles to one another to align with the natural contours of the land and to preserve the surrounding forest and meadow. Shingle-clad garden walls extend from the buildings and help define the sequence of garden spaces. The gardens include lush plantings organized in both architectural and naturalistic compositions that contrast and ultimately complement the native landscape. The result is that the buildings, pool, and patios seem to have been dropped into the existing landscape.
