LJ-Group is a landscape architecture practice with studios in Vietnam, Brazil, and Portugal. Working across a wide range of scales, from temporary installations and public spaces to large-scale masterplans, the studio explores the relationship between nature, culture, and the built environment.

Through research-driven design and interdisciplinary collaboration, LJ-Group develops site-specific landscapes that respond to local ecologies, communities, and cultural contexts. 谈及书籍出版的初衷LJ-Group曾给出反馈

本书源于我们希望记录并反思多年来在不同地域、文化与尺度上所开展的一系列设计实践。它不仅仅是一本项目合集，更是一次分享我们设计理念、工作过程和核心价值的机会。

景观建筑往往通过建成的空间被人们感知，而其背后的讨论、观察、探索与协作过程却却鲜少被看见。本书通过草图、图纸、摄影作品及建成项目，呈现这些隐而未显的设计层次，记录景观从最初构想到最终落成的演进历程。

书名《从灌木到城市景观：穿越泥泞与水》体现了我们工作的广泛性，也表达了我们的信念：景观建筑跨越多重尺度，连接生态、文化与社区。我们希望，本书不仅能够记录已经建成的作品，更能参与关于景观建筑如何塑造富有意义且具有韧性的场所这一持续展开的讨论，并为这一领域提供新的思考与视角。

This book emerged from a desire to document and reflect on a body of work developed over many years, across different landscapes, cultures, and scales. More than a collection of projects, it is an opportunity to share the thinking, processes, and values that have shaped our practice.

Landscape architecture is often experienced through completed spaces, while the conversations, observations, experimentation, and collaboration behind them remain largely unseen. Through sketches, drawings, photographs, and built works, this publication aims to reveal some of these layers and the journey from initial ideas to realized landscapes.

The title, From Bushes to Cityscape, Through Mud and Water, reflects the breadth of our work and our belief that landscape architecture operates across scales, connecting ecology, culture, and community. Ultimately, the intention of this book is not only to document what has been built, but also to contribute to a broader dialogue about the role of landscape architecture in shaping meaningful and resilient places.

At a time when visual content is increasingly consumed through digital channels, choosing to create a book is both intentional and meaningful. What does this book represent to you, and why did you feel it was important to invest in creating a lasting physical record of your work?

LJ-Group：书籍提供了一种不同于数字媒介的阅读与思考方式。尽管数字平台在分享作品方面具有价值，但它们往往将项目呈现为孤立的瞬间。而此次出版则让我们有机会退后一步，跨越时间连接思想，并反思我们实践背后的更广泛叙事。

对我们而言，这本书不仅记录了已完成的作品，也记录了多年来陪伴工作室成长的人、合作与经历。曾经，被收录进一本出版物中似乎遥不可及。如今能够贡献出属于我们自己的专著，是我们工作室发展历程中一段意义深远的时刻。

A book offers a different pace of engagement. While digital platforms are valuable for sharing work, they often present projects as individual moments. This publication provided an opportunity to step back, connect ideas across time, and reflect on the broader narrative of our practice.

For us, this publication is not only a record of completed work, but also of the people, collaborations, and experiences that have shaped the studio over time. There was a time when being featured in a book felt like a distant aspiration. Having the opportunity to contribute a volume of our own marks a deeply meaningful moment in our practice.

More than documenting projects, we hope this book becomes part of a broader conversation about landscape and the people connected to it. It is intended not only for design professionals, but also for clients, collaborators, students, and those who experience these places every day. If it encourages new ways of seeing or thinking about the relationship between people and place, that alone would make it worthwhile.

The structure of this book stands out from many other publications. It is organized into seven chapters, before showcasing the projects, you dedicate considerable space to introducing the team and the ideas that shape its practice. What was the intention behind this approach, and why was it important for readers to first understand the people, values, and processes behind the work?

LJ-Group：景观建筑本质上是一项协作性的实践，从来不是个人独立完成的创作。若在介绍项目之前，不先讲述孕育这些作品的思考、协作中的碰撞，以及团队共同秉持的价值观，那么我们所呈现的，只会是故事的一半。

本书将团队与设计理念置于项目之前，希望借此揭示作品背后的创作过程。设计并非一条从概念走向完成的线性路径，而是一场由文化、多元视角以及核心价值观的共同作用下所塑造的持续对话。我们希望读者在认识“做了什么”之前，先理解“为什么这样做”，以及“如何实现”。

七个导论章节共同构成了工作室设计思想的基础框架。当读者翻阅后续项目时，所看到的不仅是已经建成的空间，更是工作室文化、持续研究以及团队共同努力在景观中的具体呈现。

Landscape architecture is fundamentally a collective endeavor; it never stems from a single hand. To present our projects without first introducing the minds, the collaborative tensions, and the shared values that birthed them would be telling only half the story.

By organizing the book to prioritize our people and philosophy, we wanted to pull back the curtain on the creative process. Design isn’t a linear path from concept to completion; it is a continuous dialogue shaped by culture, diverse perspectives, and a specific set of core values. We wanted readers to understand the why and the how before they look at the what.

Ultimately, the seven introductory chapters establish the intellectual framework of the studio. When readers finally encounter the projects, they aren’t just looking at finished spaces, they are witnessing the tangible manifestation of our internal culture, our research, and our collective commitment to the landscape.

We noticed that, this is book structured around five key themes—ENGAGE, LEARN, PLAY, HEAL, and GROW. How did these themes emerge, and do they represent a response to today’s challenges, a vision for the future, or a combination of the two? What insights do you hope designers will take away from this approach?

LJ-Group：五个主题——参与、学习、游戏、疗愈与成长——并非预先设定的框架，而是在回顾项目实践、梳理贯穿其中的共同价值时逐渐显现出来的。

在不同国家、不同尺度和不同背景下，我们发现自己的工作始终致力于加强各种关系：人与自然之间的关系、社区与其公共空间之间的关系，以及当下需求与未来可能性之间的关系。这五个主题由此成为理解和梳理这些意图的方式。

“参与”体现了公众参与、互动交流与公共生活的重要性；“学习”强调景观作为探索与理解场所的作用，使人们重新理解生态过程，并建立与地方文化和场所精神的联系；“游戏”颂扬好奇心、想象力，以及通过共同体验所建立的社会联结；“疗愈”体现景观对环境与人类的修复力量，尤其在城市面临日益严峻的生态与社会挑战时，这种力量显得尤为重要；“成长”则代表适应力、韧性，以及社区与生态系统持续发展的过程。这些主题并非仅仅回应当下的挑战，也非仅为未来的愿景，而是二者的结合。它们植根于现实关切——气候韧性、生物多样性保护、公共健康与社会包容，同时也表达了我们对景观建筑能够持续惠及未来世代的信心与期待。

The five themes – ENGAGE, LEARN, PLAY, HEAL, AND GROW – did not emerge as a predefined framework. Rather, they became evident through a reflection on the projects themselves and the recurring values that connect them.

Across different countries, scales, and contexts, we found that our work consistently sought to strengthen relationships: between people and nature, between communities and their public spaces, and between present needs and future possibilities. These five themes became a way of organizing those intentions.

ENGAGE reflects the importance of participation, interaction, and civic life. LEARN acknowledges the role of landscapes as places of discovery and understanding, where people can reconnect with ecological processes and local identity. PLAY celebrates curiosity, imagination, and the social connections that emerge through shared experiences. HEAL speaks to the restorative capacity of landscapes, both environmental and human, particularly in a time when cities face increasing ecological and social pressures. GROW represents adaptation, resilience, and the long-term evolution of communities and ecosystems.

Rather than a response solely to today’s challenges or a vision exclusively for the future, these themes represent a combination of both. They are rooted in contemporary concerns – climate resilience, biodiversity loss, public health, and social inclusion, while also expressing an optimistic belief in the capacity of landscape architecture to contribute positively to future generations.

Although these themes grew naturally from our own practice, they are not intended to define a particular way of thinking or working. Instead, they offer a perspective, one that we hope readers will interpret, question, and relate to through their own experiences. Landscape architecture is shaped by diverse places, cultures, and people, and we believe the conversations around it should be equally open and evolving.

Among the projects featured in the book, which ones do you consider the most significant or personally meaningful? Could you share the stories behind these projects and explain how they reflect your design philosophy, challenges, and aspirations?

LJ-Group：书中的每个项目都代表了我们实践旅程中的一个篇章，因此很难仅选出其中几个最具意义的。有些项目因其规模和复杂性而引人注目，而另一些则因塑造项目发展的关系、挑战与发现而令人难忘。它们共同展现了我们在不同地域与背景下探索景观设计的多种方式。

其中，CP总部项目体现了我们希望将自然融入日常生活的理念。该项目以公司总部的公园形式呈现，鼓励人们观察自然、促进生物多样性，并创造非正式的交流机会，使工作环境超越了办公室本身的边界。

东方绿色校园项目则提出了另一种挑战。它并非从一片空白场地开始，而是在既有开发基础上进行设计，展示了如何通过生态思维实现校园景观的更新，并重新建立人与环境之间的联系。

在酒店设计领域，Namia河畔度假村则探索了与景观更为静谧的对话。项目位于秋盆河畔，从会安独特的文化与生态特征中汲取灵感，营造出根植于当地环境的独特体验。

在公共基础设施的尺度上，金兰国际机场探讨了景观如何塑造人们的抵达与出发体验，并回应了当地的气候条件与滨海地域特征。

而在另一端，人民小巷则展示了临时性干预如何激发公共生活，将一个被忽视的城市空间转变为人们聚集、游憩和交流的场所。纵观这些项目，最吸引我们的并非其规模或功能类型，而是每个项目在介入之前所提供的理解场所的机会。每个项目都提出了不同的问题，也推动了我们实践方式的发展与演变。

Each project in the book represents a different chapter of our journey, making it difficult to identify only a few as the most significant. Some stand out because of their scale and complexity, while others are memorable for the relationships, challenges, and discoveries that shaped them. Together, they reveal different ways of approaching landscape across diverse contexts.

Among them, CP Headquarters reflects our interest in bringing nature into everyday life. Conceived as a park for the company’s headquarters, it encourages observation, biodiversity, and informal encounters, extending the workplace beyond the office itself.

Oriente Green Campus presented a different challenge. Rather than beginning with a blank site, the project builds upon an existing development, demonstrating how landscape can regenerate and reconnect a campus through ecological thinking.

In the hospitality sector, Namia River Retreat explores a quieter dialogue with the landscape. Set along the Thu Bon River, it draws from the cultural and ecological character of Hội An to create an experience rooted in its surroundings.

At the scale of public infrastructure, Cam Ranh International Airport considers how landscape shapes the experience of arrival and departure, responding to the local climate and coastal identity.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, People’s Alley demonstrates how a temporary intervention can activate public life, transforming an overlooked urban space into a place for gathering, play, and community.

Looking across these projects, what interests us most is not their scale or program, but the opportunity each one offers to understand a place before intervening. Every project asks a different question, and each has contributed to the way our practice continues to evolve.
