赛瑞景观: 作品“海之韵”装置是赛瑞景观（CSC LANDSCAPE）所为2019深港城市/建筑双城双年展（深圳）大鹏新区分展场创作的一个作品，参展板块为“时间之海”（The Sea of Time）。此作品设计时间89天（2019.9.1-2019.11.27），现场搭建时间29天（2019.11.27-2019.11.25），双年展于2019年12月开幕，展期为90天。
CSC: “Soul of the sea ” is a work created by CSC LANDSCAPE for the 2019 UABB Dapeng New District Branch and displayed in “The Sea of Time” section. The design time of this work is 89 days (2019.9.1-2019.11.27), and the on-site construction time is 29 days (2019.11.27-2019.11.25). The Biennale opened in December 2019 and would last for 90 days.
Dapeng New District has unique and diverse geographic resources. It is an urban area that embraces two natural landscapes, allowing residents to feel the coexistence of nature and history. The work ” Soul of the sea ” is located on the central axis of Jiaochangwei B & B Town, Dapeng New District, Shenzhen. Facing the sea and the beach on the south side, it is one of the works closest to the sea in this biennale. The original idea of the creation is “talking between the ancient and the modern, rooting in the coastal history and culture of Pengcheng”. The work creates a strong visual impact through the weather-resistant steel sculpture that simulates the shape of the waves, allowing viewers to experience different light and shadow changes in different time dimensions and listen to the sound of the waves. The work interacts with the “history” and “ecology” of the Dapeng New District through three interactive installations: “Breathing Sand”, “Dancing Sand”, and “Silver Water”.

关于“海之韵”About “Soul of the sea ”
The visual of the work “Soul of the sea ” is open to the coastline, which makes this area a container for observing natural changes; therefore, the focus of the design is not to build a new structure, but to create an artistic medium that connects the ocean and the town. The original site of the project is an idle plaza made of cold concrete. ” Soul of the sea ” redefines the interface between the ground and the sea and creates a new stage of interaction or dialogue with nature through the fusion of technology, humanities and art.
The original inspiration for the interactive installation “Breathing Sand” comes from the designer’s childhood memory of catching crabs by the sea. After the waves wash the beach, the tiny crabs breath under the fine white sand, and the sand surface bounces and bubbles slightly, leaving a small mark. In order to restore the memory, the designer uses artistic processing to make the sand fluctuate dynamically with the rhythm of breathing. The sand underfoot seems to have life, let the participants inadvertently feel the charm of nature, and at the same time trigger the thinking of the marine environment.
The interactive device “Dancing Sand” echoes the “Breathing Sand”. Open and then close, fast and then slow, driving the atmosphere of childhood play by the sea to the climax. The designer exaggeratedly gives the sand on the beach the identity of “sand dancer”. Through program control, we can combine the dance pose of the sand dancer with the rhythm of music, so that the viewers can feel the rolling of sand appearing in the eruption state of the geothermal hot spring, creating a artistic conception of dance and music.
After gently stepping over, the water surface ripples, which is the picture of our childhood playing in the water. The “Silver Water” light interactive device is born then.With the sand surface as a carrier, people’s activities interact with the surface of the lights, producing interactions of a variety of light waves. The changing light creates a water wave effect that spreads from the inside to the outside, just like the waves that rise on the surface of the water, creating a unique fun, and at the same time recalling the happy time of childhood playing in the water, which seems to be a reminder and review of history.
关于设计About the design
Throughout the design process, the design team has proposed three proposals on this topic. We try to observe and think in multiple dimensions and angles, start from the perception of sight, hearing and touch, and explore new changes in design ideas. After many rounds of design discussions, internal expert selection, and comprehensive evaluation by the Shenzhen Municipal Government and the curatorial company, the ” Soul of the sea ” program was finally selected as our company’s participation program.
The design of “Soul of the sea ” highlights the characteristics of industrial space: Weathering steel is used as the main element of the whole device, and the shape and contour simulate the shape scoured by sea waves. The undecorated weather-resistant steel keel is like a ship frame that has been eroded by the waves after sailing for hundred years. The mottled rust has a rich historical color. The combined lines of the keel guide the audience into the installation. Weather-resistant steel and sea sand form a rough and unified beauty. The elements of history and ecology intersect each other, echoing the beach impression of Dapeng New District, and at the same time forming a very cultural atmosphere of exhibition space.
We express the exploration and expectation of the activation of coastal cities through the installation of “Soul of the sea”, as well as a profound review and reflection on the ancient city and natural ecology; and create an artistic channel to feel and experience “history” and “ecology” in the urban living environment.
