This lush rooftop garden is perched on the 8th floor of Richard Meier’s Grand Army Plaza building. The terrace addition transforms what was previously a hot and difficult to occupy space by raising the living surface off of the roof with a stepped landscape of planting and beautifully crafted and lightweight GFRC curbs. The raised deck and planting provides a running and scooter circuit for the children that live in the unit, while elevating the perspective and capturing views.

The terrace is unbelievably situated with panoramic views of the Brooklyn Museum, Prospect Park, Grand Army Plaza, the Hudson River, downtown Brooklyn and Lower Manhattan all in one turn of the head. The design’s geometries respond to views and maximize the space by creating distinct seating pockets separated by a planting mix that provides both year round beauty and a children’s garden bed filled with a rotating collection of eclectic plants to pique curiosity.
