木月建筑设计事务所:“艺术在樵山-广东南海大地艺术节”由佛山市南海区人民政府主办,佛山市南海区文化广电旅游体育局、佛山市南海区文化投资管理有限公司、北京瀚和文化传播有限公司(大地艺术节中国团队)共同承办,西樵镇人民政府、西樵山书院协办。广东南海大地艺术节由“大地艺术节中国授权机构”瀚和文化创始人孙倩担任总策划,大地艺术节创立者、国际策展大师北川富朗出任顾问。艺术节以“艺术在樵山”为主线,以“最初的湾区”为策展主题,运用在地化的艺术创作方法,讲述南海故事,呈现南海价值。

MOON Architects: “Art at Qiaoshan – Art field Nanhai Guangdong” is sponsored by the People’s Government of Nanhai District, Foshan City, Foshan Nanhai District Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports Bureau, Foshan Nanhai District Cultural Investment Management Co., Ltd., Beijing Hanhe Cultural Communication Co., Ltd. is co-organized by the Xiqiao Town People’s Government and Xiqiao Mountain Academy. Art field Nanhai Guangdong is led by Sun Qian, the founder of Hanhe Culture, the “Land Art Festival authorized agency in China”, as the chief planner, and the founder of the Land Art Festival and international curator Fulang Beichuan serves as the consultant. The art festival takes “Art at Qiaoshan” as the main line and “The Original Bay Area” as the curatorial theme. It uses localized artistic creation methods to tell the story of the South China Sea and present the value of the South China Sea.

木月建筑设计事务所 (MOON Architects)受邀负责广东南海大地艺术节“西樵山、听音湖、平沙岛、太平墟、松塘村、儒溪村、凰岗村、渔耕粤韵”八个艺术分区艺术服务站建筑与空间改造的室内设计、展场设计与布置、道具开发、现场监督并驻地跟踪整个项目施工与落地。

MOON Architects was invited to be responsible for the eight projects of the Guangdong Nanhai Land Art Festival “Xiqiao Mountain, Tingyin Lake, Pingsha Island, Taiping Ruins, Songtang Village, Ruxi Village, Huanggang Village, and Yugengyue Yue” Interior design, exhibition venue design and layout, props development, on-site supervision and on-site tracking of the entire project construction and implementation of the art service station building and space renovation in each art district.

其中,平沙岛·村口蚕房是“珠三角最大的江心岛”—平沙岛艺术分区的艺术节服务站。建筑师藤本壮介(Sou Fujimoto)以“森林之光”的概念改造了平沙岛·村口蚕房的建筑部分,并创作了户外艺术装置《水天一色》。蚕房连同旁边的猪圈整体改造后承载了平沙岛上的艺术节服务站、艺术家徐冰的《背后的故事:山水四条屏》作品展示空间、艺术家戴显婧《自然与共》的作品展示空间等功能。

Among them, Pingsha Island·Silkworm House is the art festival service station of the Pingsha Island Art Zone, “the largest river center island in the Pearl River Delta”. Architect Sou Fujimoto used the concept of “Light of the Forest” to renovate the architectural part of the Pingsha Island Village Silk House and created the outdoor art installation “water / sky pavilion “. The silkworm house and the pig pen next to it were renovated as a whole and housed the art festival service station on Pingsha Island, the exhibition space for artist Xu Bing’s “The Story Behind: Four Screens of Landscape”, and the exhibition space for artist Dai Xianjing’s “Natural Sharing”, etc.

 

 

自然与建筑共生 Symbiosis between Nature and Architecture

平沙岛是西江河口段流经南海区西樵镇的一个冲积岛屿,是一个有着优渥自然状态的江心岛。岛上建筑物低矮,视野开阔。平沙岛上有风貌良好的红砖建筑民居、良田与美池、水牛与走地鸡、蕉林与菜地,柠檬树与杨桃树。村民的出岛方式只有坐渡船,乘坐西江上的渡轮去往平沙岛只需短短5分钟便可到达上岸。西樵自明清起就是著名的桑蚕之乡、丝绸重镇,平沙岛亦是重要的桑蚕基地,有着发达的桑蚕文化。如今产业更迭,虽已无养蚕户,但岛上上社村中还保存有蚕姑庙一座,日日仍有香火供奉。

Pingsha Island is an alluvial island in the estuary section of the Xijiang River flowing through Xiqiao Town, Nanhai District. It is an island in the center of the river with a beautiful natural state. The buildings on the island are low and the views are wide. Pingsha Island has beautiful red-brick houses, fertile fields and beautiful ponds, buffaloes and free-range chickens, banana groves and vegetable fields, lemon trees and star fruit trees. The only way for villagers to get out of the island is by ferry, but now travel is very convenient. From Pingsha Ferry in Xiqiao Town, Nanhai District, Foshan, there is actually an island you can reach in 5 minutes. Xiqiao has been a famous hometown of sericulture and an important silk town since the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Pingsha Island is also an important sericulture base with a developed sericulture culture. Nowadays, the industry has changed, and although there are no silkworm farmers anymore, there is still a Cangu Temple in Shangshe Village on the island, and incense is still worshiped every day.

在岛上游走,路边总有成行成群的榕树,记载着村落的历史和变迁。这些榕树,有的从建村就种下了,有的因村里大事发生而种下,然后以它们天生天养的个性,在平沙这个水与阳光充足的生态环境下长成参天大树,成为村民心中最踏实的陪伴。榕树下是村民休闲聚会的重要场所。每到夏日,村民们会聚到大榕树底下聊聊家常,以躲过广东毒辣的太阳。就这样,大榕树陪伴村民度过了一年又一年的炎热夏日。

When walking around the island, there are always rows and groups of banyan trees on the roadside, recording the history and changes of the village. Some of these banyan trees were planted since the village was founded, and some were planted because of important events in the village. Then, with their innate personalities, they grew into towering trees in the ecological environment of Pingsha with abundant water and sunshine. Become the most solid companion in the hearts of the villagers. Under the banyan tree is an important place for villagers to gather for leisure. Every summer, villagers gather under the big banyan tree to chat about home affairs to escape the harsh Guangdong sun. In this way, the big banyan tree has accompanied the villagers through the hot summers year after year.

平沙岛·村口蚕房的建筑中央,也生长着这样一棵生命繁茂的老榕树。墙缝里生出着老榕树的根系,老榕树穿房而过,盘踞于屋顶上方向天空舒展枝叶。自然与建筑共生,大榕树与蚕房共生,蚕房与平沙岛共生。

There is also such a lush old banyan tree growing in the center of the building of the Silkworm House at the entrance of the village on Pingsha Island. The root system of the old banyan tree grows in the cracks in the wall. The old banyan tree passes through the house and is entrenched on the roof, spreading its branches and leaves toward the sky. Nature and architecture coexist, the big banyan tree coexists with the silkworm house, and the silkworm house coexists with Pingsha Island.

看不见的蚕房 Invisible Silkworm House

项目所在地原本是一个废弃蚕房。建筑师在改造蚕房内外观的基础上,把屋顶旧有的瓦片用玻璃瓦取代。让自然光穿过这些新的瓦片时,就像阳光从树叶间穿过一样,根据一天中参观时间不同,观众可以有不同的体验方式感受建筑,了解蚕房建筑的特点、适合蚕宝宝生长的环境、平沙岛养蚕业的兴起和发展。在“艺术”的加持下,人们被吸引聚集于此,观看这个乡村的历史与文化。

The project site was originally an abandoned silkworm house. The architect renovated the interior and exterior of the silkworm house and replaced the old tiles on the roof with glass tiles. Allowing natural light to pass through these new tiles is like sunlight passing through leaves. Depending on the time of day, visitors can experience the building in different ways and learn about the characteristics of the silkworm house building, the environment suitable for the growth of silkworms, and the rise and development of sericulture on Pingsha Island. With the blessing of “art”, people are attracted to gather here to watch the history and culture of this village.

观看之道 Ways of Seeing

在“森林之光”建筑外壳的内部,我们分析了空间的既有特征。废弃的蚕房像是一块原石、像一块璞玉,本身已具备空间的诗学状态。我们希望将既有空间特性进行梳理、整理、局部更新,不是“大刀阔斧”的覆盖,而是“字斟句酌”的将既有的空间特性进行强化,让这些久远的印记与回忆重新被尊重和看见。

Inside the “Light of the Forest” building shell, we analyzed the existing characteristics of the space. The abandoned silkworm house is like a piece of rough stone or jade, possessing the poetic status of space itself. We hope to sort out, organize and partially update the existing spatial characteristics, not to cover it in a “broad way”, but to strengthen the existing spatial characteristics in a “careful” way, so that these long-standing imprints and memories can be respected and seen again.

于是我们根据新的空间动线与将自然光引入的需求重新组织了开门与开洞大小。我们梳理空间中的历史痕迹,墙壁上多余的材料或元素被清理干净,只留下一些重要的修补和遗留痕迹。大量的动作都为了实现“既有空间特性”的保留。梳理过后,结构变得更加明显,我们通过提高结构的力量感改善了室内外关系。地面采用了优质的水泥砂浆处理,提供了连续的表面,在室内外相交处的材料用碎石交接铺设,里外互动,空间渗透。在关键部位,我们植入的新空间陈展构架,为平沙岛·村口蚕房带来实用功能与活力,使老房获得统一与新生。

So we reorganized the doors and opening sizes according to the new spatial circulation and the need to introduce natural light. We sorted out the historical traces in the space, and the excess materials or elements on the walls were cleaned away, leaving only some important repairs and traces. A large number of actions are aimed at retaining the “existing spatial characteristics”. After detangling, the structure became more visible and we improved the indoor-outdoor relationship by increasing the structure’s sense of strength. The ground is treated with high-quality cement mortar, which provides a continuous surface. The materials at the intersection of indoor and outdoor are paved with gravel, so that the inside and outside interact and the space penetrates. In key locations, the new space display structure we implanted brings practical functions and vitality to the Pingsha Island Cunkou Silkworm House, bringing unity and new life to the old house.

在驻地的过程中,我们与工人工匠们泡在一起,感慨万千:整个项目的预算有限,工期紧张,因而很多时候建筑的改造阴差阳错成了”没有建筑师的建筑”。当地的工人与工匠是整个建筑真正的建筑师,他们凭借自己的技艺与记忆用双手筑造了这个新的蚕房。就像很久以前蚕房最初被建造起来那样,现代的改造过程也充满了一种极其重要却无名的特质。这穿跃了学科体系化的知识驯养,唤醒了面对现场的原初真实感觉,复苏了退化的感官。不禁直呼:向工人学习,向工匠学习,向现场学习。看不见的蚕房被看见,看不见的工人们被照见。

During the stay, we hung out with the workers and craftsmen, and we were filled with emotions: the entire project had a limited budget and a tight construction period, so many times the renovation of the building accidentally turned into a “building without an architect.” We are filled with emotion. The local workers and craftsmen are the real architects of the entire building. They built this new silkworm house with their own hands with their own skills and memory. Just as the silkworm houses were originally built long ago, the modern renovation process is imbued with an all-important yet nameless quality. This breaks through the systematic knowledge cultivation of disciplines, awakens the original real feeling of facing the scene, and revives the degraded senses. I can’t help but say: learn from the workers, learn from the craftsmen, and learn from the scene. The invisible silkworm houses are seen, and the invisible workers are illuminated.

艺术介入乡村:洄游 Art Intervention in Rural Villages : Migration

广东南海大地艺术节通过艺术的力量挖掘在地文化,助力乡村振兴,唤醒乡土和特色资源,是国内首个全域性、地域型艺术节。在地持续举办、长期发展,由“集中活动期+日常运营期”共同构成,是大地艺术节ART FIELD的基本宗旨与模式特色。

自2021年「艺术在浮梁」项目起,木月建筑设计事务所 (MOON Architects) 就开始以艺术介入的方式参与乡村实践,通过对村落中节点的设计与改造,制造承载公共活动、共同情感、事件发生的容器。

Art Field Nanhai Guangdong explores local culture through the power of art, helps rural revitalization, and awakens local and characteristic resources.  Art Field Nanhai Guangdong is the first region-wide, regional art festival in China. Continuous local holding and long-term development, consisting of “concentrated activity period + daily operation period”, are the basic purpose and model characteristics of ART FIELD.

Since the “Art in Fuliang” project in 2021, MOON Architects has begun to participate in rural practice through artistic intervention. Through the design and transformation of nodes in the village, it creates spaces that carry public activities and common emotions. , the container where the event occurs.

在不断实践的过程中,我们的角色慢慢发生了变化。一开始是观众,后面是改造小院子的建筑师,再后来就是拔萝卜的新农人。随着这种身份的转变,木月建筑设计事务所 (MOON Architects)在整村改造、建筑改造、艺术装置等实践之后,在不同尺度与不同视角下的角色参与让我们对艺术介入乡村有了更深的思考:制度、情感、习俗、仪式、艺术、想象和符号交织在一起。我们对空间进行梳理、在原有的景观基础上重塑、将原有建筑巧妙地更新和改造,利用当地匠人、传统材料与工艺,建造出低成本、符合本土文化的在地方案。乡村项目是复杂的综合问题,需要集体智慧,这是乡村的魅力所在,也是乡村的活力所在。这需要我们不停的观察、介入、实践、思考、参与与抽离、反思、回望。

In the process of continuous practice, our roles slowly changed. At first it was the audience, then there were the architects renovating the small yard, and then there were the new farmers pulling radishes. With this change of identity, after MOON Architects’ practice of whole village renovation, architectural renovation, and art installations, its role participation at different scales and different perspectives has given us a better understanding of artistic intervention in the countryside. Deeper thinking: institutions, emotions, customs, rituals, art, imagination and symbols are intertwined. We organized the space, reshaped it based on the original landscape, and cleverly updated and transformed the original buildings. We used local craftsmen, traditional materials and craftsmanship to create low-cost local solutions that were in line with local culture. Rural projects are complex and comprehensive issues that require collective wisdom. This is the charm and vitality of the countryside. This requires us to constantly observe, intervene, practice, think, participate and withdraw, reflect, and look back.

Activating regional culture requires our patience and sincerity. It requires practical on-site discovery, exploration, sorting, excavation, and purification. It requires us to respect the local culture and residents with a humble attitude and leave it to heaven, earth, and people:a sincere answer.
