GUANJI Design:Suzhou has been inextricably tied to “water” since ancient times. The lanes, residences, and daily life of this water town have long merged with water into an inseparable whole. Contemporary Suzhou residents yearn to return home alongside water—to escape the hustle and bustle, and rediscover their inner selves. XMXYG ORIENTAL HONOR is precisely born to fulfill this aspiration.
Water serves as the guiding thread of the design—it is not merely a landscape element, but a navigator along the homecoming journey. With its flowing form and clear, crisp sound, it soothes the chaos of the outside world, leading people to gradually immerse themselves in the warm atmosphere of “home.” Meanwhile, the design draws inspiration from the Suzhou people’s inherent temperament—restrained and gentle, like fine jade. This texture is woven into the spatial fabric: delicate stone materials and soft, rounded lines (free of sharp angles) are used, making the scenes as smooth and refreshing as jade nourished by water.
The “moon” stands as a symbol of belonging—rooted in the deep-seated sentiment that “the moon is brightest over one’s hometown.” The project weaves the “moon” into every corner of the space: from the moon’s reflection in water to the blank negative spaces of framed vistas, its presence is omnipresent. This subtle echo of the moon grants people a sense of peace and belonging, as the sight of it calms the heart. With the core theme of “Growing Alongside Water, Guided to the Moonlight,” the design crafts a serene, unfolding scroll of contemporary Jiangnan aesthetics—where every detail embodies the tranquil charm of this water town.
The layered water platform at the entrance serves as the visual focal point. Water cascades down tier by tier, and the clear, tinkling sound of flowing water, mingled with a fresh, moist breeze, greets visitors as they arrive. The dome above draws on the design imagery of the “Tree of Life” – resembling the lush, vigorous tree that might stand at the entrance of one’s ancestral home. It grows silently and offers quiet shelter, symbolizing the inheritance of warmth and the unbroken bond of family legacy. The diamond-shaped water platform marks the starting point of the water flow, which spreads gently to both sides. As people follow the water’s path, their footsteps echo in harmony with the sound of flowing water—even time seems to take on a rhythmic cadence. Beads of water drip from the jade-like platform, their clear, crisp sound lingering in the air. Below the surface, the glow of the dome’s “tree branches” shimmers in the reflection; the warm marble and calm water veins converge, helping to wash away the dust and fatigue of the journey.

Stepping into the entrance portico, the octagonal columns rise and interweave like trees reaching toward the sky, forming a gentle canopy overhead. It resembles both the embracing boughs of an old tree and an umbrella at the doorstep—standing in quiet resolve to shield those returning home from wind and rain, while welcoming sunlight and softening the dust of the day. Azure-glazed jade-patterned windows, shaped like the overhanging eaves of traditional architecture, are embedded in the dome. Their form evokes flying birds spreading their wings, echoing the timeless charm of Suzhou. The icy jade textures of the windows complement the metallic frames perfectly, blending classical elegance with subtle modernity.

In the gateway design, lines blend seamlessly with doorposts, as if a gentle yet vital force lifts the eaves upward. Meanwhile, the design draws inspiration from the pattern of Suzhou’s brick-carved window grilles—where intricate lines crisscross, infusing the modern style with the agile charm of Suzhou’s ancient architecture.

As dusk falls, walking beneath the colonnades flanking the entrance, one is bathed in the afterglow of the setting sun. The branches of sculpted Chinese holly stretch outward; light and shadow drift across the beams and columns, harmonizing with the gurgle of the water platform. In this moment, the mind gradually settles into a state of calm.
The corridors flanking the opposing scenic views are adorned with hexagonal lattice windows. In Chinese culture, “hexagon” (liujiaoxing) harmonizes with the pronunciation of “lu” (meaning “prosperity” and “blessings”), embodying auspicious wishes for fortune and abundance. Above these lattice windows lies luxury stone veined with jade-like patterns; the textures interweave with light and shadow, exuding a warm and dignified elegance. As twilight deepens, the gurgle of cascading water guides the steps of those returning home. The creamy white gateway stands quietly, its soft texture spreading gently through the space—filling the heart with profound tranquility and peace.

The courtyard is designed with an enclosed layout, where the understated elegance inherent in Oriental culture naturally emerges through the staggered layers and harmonious integration of spaces.
A full moon hangs gently before the eyes; its silvery light spills into the pool, rippling softly with the water and shattering into a glittering sheet of “silver scales.” If you listen closely, the rustle of leaves in the woods echoes the gentle ripples of the pool—water, moonlight, and treetops interweave to form a deeply moving scene.
Here, the bright moon is no longer a distant, unreachable image. As people step onto the Jade Belt Bridge, they feel as if they are wandering step by step into the moon’s soft glow—reaching up, they can almost brush the swaying treetops; looking down, they can admire the moonlight rippling with the water. Man, moon, and scenery blend seamlessly into one.
The “moon” at the heart of the scene is carved from translucent luxury stone. The stone’s texture resembles smooth, warm jade, emitting a gentle radiance. This moon-shaped installation and its reflection merge with the surrounding landscape, immersing visitors in the unique water-bound charm of Jiangnan.

The Nine-Zigzag Jade Belt Bridge draws inspiration from the jade belts of the Southern Song Dynasty, winding gently through the forest like a delicate ribbon. As light and shadow dance with the swaying treetops, they filter through the glass railings and spill onto the bridge deck. When people walk along the bridge, each step follows a subtle turn—their gaze shifts with the bridge’s meandering curve, taking in the flickering tree shadows. The leisurely joy of wandering unfolds slowly with every step.

The hole design of the archway corridor bridge draws on the charm of “multi-hole perspective” from Suzhou’s Taihu stones. These holes wind from the sides up to the top of the archway, transforming what would be static dot-like sculptures into fluid “spatial sculptures.” As people walk through the bridge, they gaze out through different holes—each step shifts their view, and the scenery changes constantly with their movement. Every footfall is filled with the ingenuity and surprise of the “scenery changes with each step” aesthetic, a classic essence of Jiangnan garden design.

Scattered between the corridor bridges are viewing bars, surrounded by azure-glazed “jade belts” that echo the project’s design motif. Looking up, the bars and the Nine-Zigzag Jade Belt Bridge crisscross in the line of sight—one solid, one ethereal; one near, one distant. This interplay creates a delightful contrast, adding a layered, rhythmic charm to the wandering experience.

Seated at the bar, the sound of cascading water from the elevated landscape lingers in the air. Carried by the wind, the sound shifts between clear and melodious, then soft and slow. It weaves together with the light and shadow of the corridor bridge, and the distant silhouette of the winding jade belt bridge—letting those who sit here sink into tranquility, their hearts calming gradually with the flow of water.

At the center of the space, a “bright moon” rests gently, softly embraced by the shimmering ripples of the water. As if responding, a warm halo of light also rises from the water’s surface. The moon in the water and the moon in the sky gaze at each other in silence. Between the real and the virtual, it is as if two dreams overlap, blurring the line between illusion and reality. When people stand by the window, they become the softest, most vivid touch in this beautiful scene—merging seamlessly with the moon, water, and light.

Light and shadow interweave amid the water and woods. In the jade bowl-shaped tree planters, clusters of Chinese tallow trees thrive—their hues and vitality shifting with the seasons: fresh green in spring, lush verdant in summer, fiery crimson in autumn, and delicate bare branches in winter, each phase unfolding a unique charm.

Seated indoors, one can look up to see the bright moon hanging in the sky. A warm teacup rests in hand, a faint fragrance of tea lingers at the tip of the nose, and the gurgle of spring water drifts gently into the ears.Gazing into the distance, the landscape shrouds in a hazy mist. Moonlight, the sound of springs, the aroma of tea, and the misty water interweave—weaving a blanket of tranquility that wraps around the heart. Before one knows it, they are fully immersed in this leisurely peace, letting go of all trivial worries of the day.

The second-floor weather-proof corridor for homecoming enables the seamless penetration of indoor and outdoor scenery. Drawing on the design ingenuity of “integrating paintings into the garden and shaping landscapes from paintings,” it unfolds the scenery like a scroll, extending the boundaries of the internal space. Amid the twists and gentle undulations of the corridor, the artistic charm of Oriental garden design is subtly incorporated. As people walk along it, the view shifts with each step—indoor and outdoor landscapes complement and enliven each other, turning the journey home into a delightful tour of scenery.

As the sunset rises, the sky is dyed in soft orange and pink hues. On the second-floor platform, sparse tree shadows outline the shape of light, connecting with the colored sky—like an unplanned yet meaningful natural painting.
The curved stone pillars on both sides of the corridor exude a warm and gentle aura. They overlap with the carefully selected scenic trees: tree shadows fall on the pillar surfaces, while the pillars reflect the tree shapes. This interplay creates a neat yet playful arrangement, brimming with subtle charm.
Inside the leisure pavilion, trees stretch upward through the circular opening in the roof. The light strips cast a soft yellow glow, which blurs at the edge of the opening to form the shape of a full moon—echoing the “moon” in the distant central courtyard. As light and shadow harmonize, the serene charm of wholeness (a core concept in Oriental aesthetics) flows gently through this space.Sky light pours down like water, spilling over the cascading water steps and turning into tiny shimmering ripples that quietly drift into Yuming Xuan (Jade Tea Pavilion). Light and shadow interweave with the objects inside: they slant across the seats, glint along the rims of teacups, and sink into the depths of the wood grain. The entire space seems to be wrapped in a layer of warm, whispered tenderness.
Here, people bow their heads to converse or raise their cups to gaze quietly: the water shimmers, figures stand in elegant ease, and both words and silence become part of the scenery. Beyond the window, the twilight lingers like a soft stream—this moment of tranquility and gentle brightness belongs only to here and now, witnessing a perfectly timed encounter.

The corridor winds and turns, connecting indoor and outdoor spaces as it extends. As people walk through it, their eyes can wander freely across different scenes; the layers of the space grow more vivid and flexible in this mutual blending, turning every step of the passage into a subtle exploration of beauty.

Within the private space of the stilt floor lies a quiet nook designed for “coffee by day, wine by night.”By day, sitting leisurely at the outdoor counter, one is surrounded by lush greenery—every breath is filled with the fresh, crisp scent of plants, letting the mind unwind amid nature’s tranquility. As night falls, during moments of gentle relaxation, looking up through the gaps between the layers of corridors, the “moonlight” (whether the real moon or the project’s moon-themed installations) remains there, quietly accompanying people through these pleasant, unhurried hours.

Here, the space quietly weaves a long, serene scroll of contemporary Jiangnan, growing along the water and reaching towards the moon. Every step on the way home is immersed in the soft and clear heart of the water town, nothing more.
