OKASHIMO: Colin OKASHIMO is a sculptor who is also an acclaimed landscape architect. His juxtaposition of sculpture and landscape has produced beguiling places and harmonious environments, which have either transformed an unremarkable urban context or enhanced the existing beauty of their location. Every outcome, every solution, is derived from an especial process of research, which leads inexorably to the implementation of an evocative site-specific narrative.
Of Japanese descent, Colin OKASHIMO was born and raised in Canada, where he graduated in landscape architecture at the University of Guelph in 1982. During his course, he also trained in sculpture, which he found just as rewarding as his landscape design. He began work in Singapore, where he soon appointed regional managing director for Belt Collins before setting up his own practice in 1996 and acquiring a Master of Fine Arts degree, which was followed by a PhD. The unique fusion of landscaping and sculpture created by his Singapore studio brought immediate recognition and ever increasing acclamation throughout Asia. Colin Okashimo was awarded the Singapore President’s Designer of the Year Award in 2015.

2. 无常 Impermanence
The artist, Dr. Okashimo, is interested in creating meditation places through art and environment. After practicing meditation for more than 18 years, he continued to carefully study the relationship between his meditation practice and his practice as an artist.
Fusing sculpture and landscape, the unique artworks of OKASHIMO represent a new paradigm for place creation. In a time when it is essential to reinforce our co-existence with the natural environment and to regenerate social interaction,
OKASHIMO provides a timely corrective to the increasingly generic treatment of public spaces.
OKASHIMO creates unique places for wellbeing.
OKASHIMO is passionate, to the point of obsession, about the need for places that unequivocally improve the quality and the values of both our private worlds and our public lives.
