Guangzhou S.P.I Design Co., Ltd：The project is located in Fenghe Village, Renhe Town of Baiyun District. As a century-old village, which is known as the “village in the city” or “hollow village”, it features typical buildings of Lingnan style. Taking advantages of the aerotropolis resources and convenient transportation, the small town is created with a beatufiful environment and commercial services, providing an ideal place for relaxation, entertainment and cultural experience. Both residents and passengers will experience the spirit of the space, the colorful life and the nostalgia of Lingnan style.
As the first culural tourism town built in the aerotropolis in China, the project is themed after the airport culture and enjoys a steady stream of customers brought by the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. Exclusive channel is built and off-site boarding system is introduced for easy boarding, which will greatly optimize the waiting experience and create a new name card for the city.Since the very beginning, the town has practiced the idea of “activating the village with culture and art”, creating an iFeel village, an iFly youth camp, an iCare service system and iConnect aviation supporting facilities. It is committed to carrying out the rural revitalization based on cultural tourism and modern art.

Situated in a century-old village which is next to the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, Guangzhou Aerotropolis Cultural Tourism Town is close to Gaozeng Station of Metro Line 9 and only one stop away from the airport. It is not only an ideal home for the airport staff but also a destination for travellers.
In the first-tier city of Guangzhou, ancient houses are extremely rare. However, walking into the aerotropolis town, you will find the buildings of Lingnan style whose eaves are covered with green moss. With birds flying over, staying or singing, it reminds people of the old days of the village one hundred years ago. Time seems to slow down here, allowing people to experience the romance in Mu Xin’s poem ——“Sunset was slow in the past; Carriages, horses, and mails were all slow; A lifetime is only long enough to love one person.”
Based on the airport resources and the ancient cultural atmosphere, the designer team has carefully renovated the village and created a flying wing for Guangzhou Aerotropolis by new-and-old contrast, system innovation and cultural creativity.
Adhering to the design idea of “inheriting Cantonese culture and promoting aviation culture”, the designers aim to create a unique cultural tourism town, which integrates characteristic town, sightseeing farming and leisure tourism. The old buildings and modern dwellings are preserved and renovated, forming a strong visual impact, bridging the old and new cultures, and bringing new energy to the small town.
The frontages of the buildings along the street are decorated with modern windows, presenting a new look. The Youth Creative Art Space shapes contrast with the old buildings, forming a strong visual impact. On the other hand, modern facilities are built to bring the small town more convenience and vitality.
In the hot summer, when night descends, passengers from all over the world and residents back from their work, will have a walk along the street, relaxing their bodies and minds. In the peaceful town, the only sound you can hear is the flying or landing planes as well as the children running and playing happily.
流动的生活 Mobile Life of Landscape Bridge
As a “flowing space”, the landscape bridge not only serves as the connection between spaces but also provides a platform which encourages the interactions between people, fish, pond, wind, sky and spaces. It is a medium bringing more inetrestes to life.
The wind stirs the water and sways the flowers. In the busy life, natural elements can easily calm people down. For aviation employees, this kind of quiet image is even more precious in the busy city.
The town is themed after aviation culture. The buildings are mainly designed with white and modern facades, while the public landscape spaces are expanded to provide more chances for communication. At the same time, it adheres to the principle of green ecology and environmental protection, using environment-friendly materials to provide simple catering and entertainment services.
Inspired by air routes and the LOGO of the aerotropolis, the designers have simplified the routes into simple lines and developed the ancient village in a protective and modest way. On the premise of protecting cultural heritage and the eco environment, the design allows people to find surprises at every corner.
Inspired by the air routes,The sculpture named “Sky Corridor” Is created with linear mirror steel, Being a unique art decoration in the town.
The existing gallery bridge was designed with polyline elements, which is surrounded by idle land, workshops and dwellings, etc. And the characteristic traditional buildings and lanes are sheltered by old streets, laggard businesses and monotonous activities. Therefore, the designer team has made most of the farmland and created Leisure Park, sightseeing farming and photography base, which will help improve the quality of the residents’ life and make the town more inviting.
The present cultural tourism town is no longer the old village focusing on farming. It is now an integration of ecology, life and production. Following the rules of nature and employing ecological technologies, the designer team has reshaped the lifestyle here and satisfied residents’ demands for a better life.
In addition, the aerotropolis town has long-term cooperation with local villagers to make full use of the idle land and dwellings, increase the public facilities and preserve the old buildings. The new environment and the flexible spaces will meet the requirements of modern life and tourism. And the renovation model, which helped the “hollow village” to get rid of poverty and backwardness, provides a blueprint for the rural revitalization in Guangzhou.
In the aerotropolis cultural tourism town, you can enjoy check-in, live in internet-famous hostels,Visit art exhibitions and even apply for an aeroplane pilot license. Only one stop by metro from the airport, it provides all-around facilities and services for “eating, entertainment, accommodation and tourism”. The first phase has been opened to the public, and there will be more experiences in the future.Guangzhou Aerotropolis Cultural Tourism Town makes waiting an enjoyable experience. It has successfully transferred the old village into a young, fashionable and dynamic destination.
