L&A GROUP: How do we create a forest in a modern city for today’s children? Blending ecology and art, creating conditions for natural exploration and adventure, a metasequoia theme park for children has been built in Wuhan Luxe Island.

麓洲生态城是万华集团在武汉长江新区打造的全新项目，麓客岛位于麓洲生态城中部，采集全球先锋生活方式样本，基于全龄段考虑，以自然为基底，人文艺术为框架，想象构建与展示未来生活方式多样性样本。

LUXEOASIS ECO-CITY is a new project developed by Wide Horizon Investment Group Co., Ltd. in Wuhan Changjiang New Town. Luxe Island is located in the middle of LUXEOASIS ECO-CITY. Luxe Island collects samples of avant-garde lifestyles from around the world, considering all age groups, with nature as the foundation and humanities and arts as the framework. Imagination, construction, and Showcase samples of future lifestyle diversity.

勇者之丘挑战乐园位于麓客岛中部，占地约10000平方米，为岛内亲子森野乐园板块。项目契合麓客岛“和森野交互，与自然共处”的理念，旨在为为城市中的儿童及亲子家庭营造一片自然疗愈的空间，构筑一个充满活力、富有野趣的场所——在这里，孩子们通过肢体探索与自然亲密互动，激发潜能，收获成长喜悦。

Luxe Island Brave Hill Land is located in the middle of Luxe Island, covering an area of approximately 10,000 square meters. As the natural parent-child park within the area, the project is in line with Luxe Island’s concept of “interaction with the forest and coexistence with nature”, aiming to create a natural healing space for children and families in the city, constructing a vibrant, wild-themed environment. This is a place where children experience and explore nature, explore their potential and bask in the joy of growth.

勇者之丘挑战乐园的设计以森林与自然为主题，选择武汉市市树水杉为意向来源，以一粒水杉种子的生命历程为叙事主线，精心打造了种子树屋、奇妙森林塔、纤维重组网床、秋千博物馆、加速进程平衡车赛道五大核心区域。设计团队运用自然仿生与抽象转译手法，将水杉的根系、枝干、叶片、果实及其典型生境特征进行艺术化提炼，并融入场地空间，构筑出具有生态艺术特质的沉浸式自然乐园。

The park takes forests and nature as its theme, drawing inspiration from Wuhan’s municipal tree—the metasequoia. Through five core zones, it narrates the life journey of a single metasequoia seed. Designers employed biomimetic and abstract techniques to summarise the characteristics of the metasequoia’s roots, branches, leaves, fruits and typical habitats, integrating these elements into the site’s spatial framework to construct an immersive natural park with ecological artistry.

In Brave Hill Land, there lives Seed of Courage who love nature and adventure. Let us visit their world and listen to a tale of the metasequoia, embarking on a courageous challenge in the hills and forests!

Metasequoia seeds boast a uniquely charming, petite form. Designers anamorphised them into the original IP: Seed of Courage. They stand throughout the park, welcoming everyone with warmth.

从种子树屋的温柔初探，到奇妙森林的勇敢攀越，设计充分考量、尊重各年龄段的游玩需求，根据儿童的身心发展特征，以及感官体验、行为模式设置分龄玩法，构建渐进式野趣探索环境，鼓励孩子们主动参与、大胆挑战。

From gentle exploration in the Seed Treehouse to brave climbing in the Wonder Forest, the design considers the physical and mental development characteristics of children across different age groups. Based on their sensory experiences and behavioural patterns, we have set up age-specific play activities and constructed a progressive natural exploration environment, to encourages children participate and explore actively.

纤维重组——一起躺在森林间

水杉快速生长，将树干的木质结构放大千百倍，交错的纤维结构如同层叠大网。在网床上蹦蹦跳跳触摸树梢，或是躺树荫里做一个美梦，家长和孩子们一起，在树冠的环抱间感受自然的美好。

Fibre Recombination Net Bed — Lie Together in the Forest

Magnify the woody structure of a metasequoia trunk hundreds times over, the interlocking fibres forming a layered net. Jumping and running across the net bed to touch the treetops, or lying beneath the shade for a sweet dream. Parents and children can enjoy the beauty of nature together on the net.

Seed Treehouse –First Steps into the World

By the water’s edge, Seed of Courage sprout out to explore this world for the very first time. This is a space specially designed for our youngest visitors, where they can engage in sensory integration training through low-difficulty activities like crawling, climbing, running and jumping. Come join the Seed of Courage as they begin their journey of discovery and exploration.

和勇气种子爬上山坡，坐上秋千乘风而起。在最简单的摇摆里，触摸美好记忆；在造型各异的秋千上，体会最纯粹的快乐。此刻，童年就在林风与光隙间向你招手，邀你一同御风而行。

Swing Museum —Collect Every Happiness

Climb up the hill and swing in the breeze. Experience pure happiness upon swings of different styles. In this moment, childhood beckons from the forest breeze and dappled sunlight, inviting you to fly together.

加速进程——穿梭仙踪秘境

跨上平衡车，追逐勇气种子的脚步，穿梭在仙境般的林下花镜里，山野的风和芬芳花香陪伴孩子们大胆前行。

Accelerated Balance Bike Track—Through the Fairyland Glade

Riding balance bikes, following the trail of the Seeds of Courage, children traverse the enchanted forest glade beneath the trees. Accompanied by the mountain breeze and fragrant blossoms, they journey on with courage.

塑造一片野趣山林——生态构建

2024年，武汉出台《武汉市儿童友好公园建设指引》，提出以儿童友好公园建设为抓手，深入推进儿童友好环境建设，并倡导结合户外课堂等形式，激发青少年更好地发现自然、探索自然、保护自然。在该指引下，奥雅的设计团队从山水地貌、生态环境、自然仿生等方面考量，在城市中精心雕琢出一片野趣杉林。

Shaping a charming forest – Ecological Construction

In 2024, Wuhan issued the “Guidelines for the Construction of Child-Friendly Parks in Wuhan”, taking the construction of child-friendly parks as a key point to promote the development of a child-friendly environment. It also advocates integrating different forms of outdoor classes to encourage young people to discover, explore and protect nature. Guided by these principles, the park design focuses on landscape topography, ecological environment and natural biomimicry.

呼应城市山水

场地位于长江沿岸，奥雅股份呼应武汉山水地貌特征，利用全园高差条件，将地形塑造与整体设计进行深度有机融合，营造山林环境，丰富大区自然风貌，为游客创造更多样化的生态游憩体验。

Situated along the Yangtze River in Wuhan, the park’s design responds to the city’s mountain-water topography. Based on the park’s elevation variations, terrain sculpting integrates with the general design to create a natural environment, enhancing the park’s natural character and offering visitors diverse ecological experiences.

精细生态营造

团队秉持生态保护理念，选用多种武汉本土植物，提升场地生物多样性，为鸟类与昆虫营建栖息环境。植物设计契合了乐园水杉主题，场地外围以高大挺拔的杉、松为骨架打造色叶杂树混生林，营造出森林野趣氛围；场地内部为以丛生木荷主打的常绿密林和各类色叶乡土树混杂的秋色叶林，与设备造型相辅相成，满足遮荫需求的同时营造丛林探险的自然与光影氛围。

同时，团队基于水杉的自然生长环境，打造多处林下蕨类植物组合，塑造真实、丰富的野趣探索背景，为儿童感知自然、开展生态探索活动提供了沉浸式的环境支撑。

ecological environment

Following ecological conservation principles, the team selected diverse native plants from Wuhan to enhance biodiversity and establish habitats for birds and insects. The plant design aligns with the park’s metasequoia theme: tall and straight metasequoias and pines form the framework of a mixed forest with colored-leaf trees around the site’s perimeter, fostering wild forest atmosphere. Inside the park, evergreen treess mixed with various native colored-leaf trees complement the equipment designs. This arrangement not only provides shade for tourists but also create a natural and light-filled atmosphere for forest exploration.

Additionally, based on the natural habitat of metasequoia, the team designed some understory plant combinations to create an authentic, richly wild exploration environment, providing an immersive space for children to perceive nature and engage in ecological discovery activities.

自然仿生

设计团队通过仿生设计与生态材料选择，构建自然仿生的景观与设备。例如，用高塔参差层叠的表皮，模拟水杉树皮皲裂肌理；将深浅不一的棕灰色板材按比例穿插排布，还原自然树皮的斑驳质感；提取木质纤维意向，构建纤维重组网床，再以米色网面包裹身体，柔软的材质带来心灵慰藉，好似与水杉进行了一场无声的对话。

此外，全园用柔和的棕黄色系进行铺装。流线型铺装边界，展现水岸整体形态；自然隆起的微地形，模拟滩涂的柔和起伏；局部使用天然材料铺装与收边，强化生态自然之感。

natural biomimicry

Through bionic design and the selection of ecological materials, the design team constructed bionic landscapes and equipment. For example, the staggered and layered surface of the tall towers simulates the cracked texture of metasequoia bark: Brown wooden panels are arranged in proportion to replicate the mottled texture of natural bark. Extracting the imagery of wood fibres, the team built the Fiber Recombination Net Bed which envelops the body in a beige mesh surface, offering gentle material comfort for the spirit.

The entire park uses soft brown-yellow tones for paving. The streamlined pavement boundary showcases the overall form of the waterfront; Naturally uplifted micro-landforms, simulating the gentle undulations of tidal flats; natural materials are used locally for paving and edging to enhance the ecological and natural feel.

精密生长——工程技术

参数化表皮设计Epidermal Design

为生动再现水杉根系的自然形态，奇妙森林区的三座主塔采用偏心锥状结构，包含多处不同的树干转折、枝桠夹角与仿生树洞。表皮设计精准模拟斑驳皲裂的树皮质感：经多轮模拟，选定参差层叠的表皮模块组合方式，并研发了一套Grasshopper电池组，依托参数化设计精确控制生产安装精度。

Precision Growth – Engineering Technology

To vividly recreate the natural morphology of Metasequoia root systems, the three main towers in The Wonder Forest employ an eccentric conical structure. This incorporates multiple trunk bends, branch angles, and biomimetic tree cavities. The surface design meticulously mimics mottled, fissured bark texture: Suitable combinations of surface modules were selected after several rounds of simulation, and then a programme was designed with Grasshopper to precisely control production and installation accuracy through parametric design.

借助这套电池组，团队在方案阶段可基于设备简模快速生成意向表皮效果，直观展示设计意图，助力方案快速推进；在设备深化及生产阶段，可结合结构骨架间距及板材基础规格进行精细调控，得到标准表皮模块的最优排布方案，精准控制不同规格的木板面积，有效减少耗材，并生成相应图纸指导生成与安装。

This programme helps the team generate indicative surface based on draft models, visually conveying design intent to accelerate programme progress. During equipment detailing and production phase, it enables detailed control based on structural framework spacing and material’s specifications, effectively minimising material wastage and generating documents to guide fabrication and installation.

互动玩法研发

为提升互动体验的独特性与探索性，团队对玩法进行创新升级。在基础的跷跷板、秋千设备上融入创新互动装置，赋予更丰富的游玩体验。

种子秋千以枝叶间的水杉果实为灵感，当游客荡起秋千，勇气种子便从竹编树屋中探头出来，通过机械装置与游客进行实时互动。

Interactive equipment

To enhance the uniqueness and exploratory nature of the interactive experience, designers innovatively upgraded the equipment. Innovative interactive elements were integrated into fundamental seesaw and swing installations for better experience.

The Seed Swing takes inspiration from the seeds of Metasequoia trees which hide under leaves. By using mechanical devices, the Seed of Courage comes out from the bamboo treehouse and interact with visitors when they are swing.

种子跷跷板从水杉生长迅速的特性出发，将种子向上生长的状态与互动玩法结合，当游客摆动跷跷板时，勇气种子会伴随着音乐向上爬升。跷跷板摆动的速度越快，勇气种子上升的速度越快，两组游客可以比赛谁能助力勇气种子更快登顶。

The Seed Seesaw combines the seeds’ growth process with interactive equipment. When visitors play the seesaw, courage seeds climb upwards with music. The faster the seesaw swings, the quicker the seeds rise, allowing two groups of visitors to compete in helping the seeds reach the top.

全流程工程管理

团队实行方案-生产-施工全流程把控，以落地效果为导向推进各项工作。

以纤维重组网床为例，场地内近一半区域为近期回填土堆坡，可能存在沉降不均匀的问题。为应对这一客观问题，设计师通过对设备基础进行整合处理，由多组不同标高的独立基础改为两组接近场地原标高的筏板基础，既能规避沉降影响，又便于工厂预拼装测试。同时，可配合现场土建工程工序，于夯土前安装设备基础，以避免二次开挖增加施工难度与成本。

Project Management

The team implemented comprehensive oversight across design, production, and construction phases, driving all activities towards achieving outstanding implementation outcomes.

Taking the Fiber Recombination Net Bed as an example, nearly half of the site consists of recently backfilled soil mounds, which may face the problem of uneven settlement. To address this issue, the designers consolidated the equipment foundations —multiple independent foundations at varying elevations were replaced with two raft foundations approximating the original site elevation. This not only avoids the impact of settlement but also facilitates factory pre-assembly and testing. It also aligns with engineering schedules flexible, avoiding additional excavation that would increase construction complexity and costs.

勇者之丘挑战乐园的顺利落地，得益于万华与奥雅设计团队的紧密协作。双方以生态性、创新性与独特体验为核心，通过深度沟通，将自然美学与童趣想象融入空间。清晰的设计目标与严谨的工作流程有力保障了设计工作的高效推进；对施工品质的高度重视与全程把控，最终实现了设计方案的高完成度呈现。

此外，在项目过程中，双方共同思考乐园的品牌价值与持续发展，将核心体验融入后续发展，为访客创造持久的自然互动场所。此次合作，是双方专业精神与实践经验的一次有益融合，合力推动了一个高品质、有活力乐园空间的实现。

The successful completion of the Luxe Island Brave Hill Land project is attributed to the close collaboration between Wide Horizon Investment Group and L&A Group. With ecology, innovation, and unique experiences as the core, the two parties integrated natural aesthetics and childlike imagination into the space through in-depth communication. Clear design goals and a rigorous workflow effectively ensured the efficient advancement of the design work; while high attention to and full-process control of construction quality ultimately achieved the high-fidelity realization of the design scheme.

Furthermore, during the project, both teams jointly considered the park’s brand value and sustainable development, integrating core experiences into future development to create a long-lasting venue for visitors to interact with nature. This collaboration is a valuable integration of the professional spirit and practical experience of both parties, jointly promoting the realization of a high-quality and vibrant park space.
